Per @Edwerderespn, the Dallas Cowboys have reached agreement with Monte Kiffin to become their defensive coordinator. |

It'll force Ware into a 4-3 spot which I'm sure he's capable of, but when you have a top pass rusher, why change things? Who will play the opposite DE spot, because isn't Spencer a FA after this season?
Lee and Carter would fit in really well, but having Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne play in a zone system seems like a massive waste of their abilities.
I'm not saying it wouldn't work for them, and I don't even know how Kiffin would adapt, but it doesn't seem like the right move. |
so you're saying that having one of the best pass rushers in the league rush the qb more is a bad thing? kiffin already said he'd adjust to cowboys personnel anyways meaning ware rushing more and Claiborne Carr continuing to play man |
I think I was pretty clear in saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. _________________

Pretty good hire for Dallas, but I was honestly hopping to see Kiffin go to Kansas City. _________________

I'm honestly happy to see Monte get another shot. He's one of the best to ever do it. I would have liked for him to come back to Tampa, but either way I'm excited to see what he can do.
Kiff was awfully stubborn in his day. Limited blitzing, Tampa-2 all day long, let the DLine go to work. At this point in his career I don't know how creative he will be. I wouldn't expect exotic blitzes/coverages, but I do expect the Cowboys defense to be fundamentally sound. _________________

That would be a sight for sore eyes - we haven't been fundamentally sound in as long as I can remember _________________

The secondary could get a real boost too if Raheem Morris decides to follow one of his mentors down to Dallas. I think his contract expires after this season. Dallas seems like a nice fit with a 'DC in waiting' gig. _________________

Stanford and UCLA would disagree... |
UCLA? |
From the games I've seen their offense doesn't seem that gimmicky (correct me if I'm wrong though). Spread but a lot of runs with Franklin. I wouldn't put them in the same category as the other PAC 12 offenses like Oregon... | They run a spread like Oregon only not as well obviously. But hey are a pure spread team with a dual threat QB. It's just Chip>Noel Mazzone. _________________

| Expect a LOT more zone coverage and a lot of conservative approaches. Good thing about that is you won't get smoked by the deep ball or the big play as much. He calls a "die-slow" defense. I'm bitter about the way he left Tampa(quitting with 4 games left) but I'm giving honest feedback. He will get a lot out of his players - moreso guys that are least talented. Chris Hovan, Jovan Haye, Phillip Buchanon and Barrett Ruud all played their best ball under him. I hope he's an awful fit for the Cowboys and retires. But, he most likely will pan out to be a good hire with the amount of talent there. |

So I expect a Cover 2 type scheme to run. How does the Cowboys front 7 look for it. Ratliff would be a good penetrator at UT.
LE Anthony Spencer?
DT
DT Jay Ratliff
RE DeMarcus Ware
WLB Bruce Carter
MLB Sean Lee
SLB Bruce Carter Or Anthony Spencer?
I dont really know the Cowboys roster the rest of the way, but finding true 4-3 OLBs will be a main need for the Cowboys this year. Erin Henderson is a free agent and has spent a lot of time in the Cover 2. |

Crawford, de from Boise we drafted in the 3rd last year will be one de.
Hatcher, our best dl this year will be the other dt.
Spencer's gone, FA.
kiffin has said he plans to play cover 3 here. _________________

Alex Albright or Kyle Wilber will take over at SLB, our LB corps isn't a need at all, really. As it was before the scheme change, we need a reliable FS and improvement on the DL. _________________
