when i first saw this i thought it was gentleman. kidding aside he's got the credentials and we must have a connection with the giants bc we have poached a couple of their personnel. seems like a solid pick IMO but we'll see what he does this offseason with all these nice contracts _________________

GM's are a lot different than coaches. With coaches, fans usually have an idea of what they've done with other units, how they've made players better, stuff like that. With a GM, all you really have is a draft history, maybe free agent signigns, and you never know how much of that was their input.
We'll have to wait and see what he does, what direction this takes us, but I'm definitely glad that we made a hire. _________________

| Sounds like a good hire. I doubt some veterans like him after having Hurney give them overvalued contracts. |

Very happy with this. Gettleman will get things done. Interesting to see how he handles the expensive vets. _________________

| This also fits in with all the coaches getting fired. Gettlemen is going to bring in a bunch of his guys under Rivera. |

Another post ...
This looks like a great pick to me. Very blue collar and worked his way up through various organizations and been with winning teams. Richardson deserves a lot of credit this offseason. Keeping Rivera was a good move, new GM looks good and hiring Acorsi as an advisor was money well spent.
Richardson's one major mistake was not dumping Hurney years ago.
Gettlemen has his hands full with salary cap issues. Will be interesting to watch that play out. DWill, Stewart, Beason, and Gamble all need to give a bunch of money back or get gone.
I would hate to see Beason go though. |

| If JR stays so involved I don't think the results will be much different. If Gettleman is allowed to work I think the team is in good hands. It's hard to say JR isn't still calling big shots when he decided to keep Rivera before hiring a GM. |

I'll be curious to see how this affects our aversion to bigger free agency signings and our draft approach.
Is he known for anything at all? Does he have any reputation or any history that we know about other than being associated with winning teams? _________________ Still the only UK-based Panthers fan I know...hang on a minute...I might be the only one IN the UK! |

He mentored Giants GM Jerry Reese. _________________

If we can develop a model that resembles the Giants with their level of consistency, I'll be a happy fan.
The GM's job is to be the bad guy and make the tough calls on players, while the head coach is the good guy and gets to know the players. That's a good point brought up about Hurney leaving devastating the players who were - in some cases - overpaid by him.
I hope Gettlemen can make the tough calls and make smart decisions with personnel to make this team a perennial contender. _________________

Good hire lets see who all he hires under him. I think he will hire a cap guy, and wonder if he keeps Beane. _________________

In hiring the more experienced Gettleman, many believe Beane being groomed for job in coming years. Richardson likes him |
