The Seattle Seahawks had a tryout with a handful of kickers at the team’s Renton headquarters today, and veteran Ryan Longwell apparently came out as the winner. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Seattle plans to sign Longwell to the team’s active roster as insurance with Seattle’s starter Steven Hauschka nursing a lower calf strain.
The 15-year veteran did not play for any NFL team during the regular season. He was released by Minnesota a couple weeks after the Vikings drafted Blair Walsh in April.

I actually really like this signing for us. Tell me if I'm wrong VD, but I believe Longwell is a dependable kicker that will hit a high % of his kicks from 48 yards and under. We aren't a team that often takes risks with long kicks anyways so we don't need a guy with a boot. The part where it would really potentially hurt us is Longwell's terrible kickoffs. _________________

Longwell has an extremely good accuracy rate and is pretty clutch. he does not have the distance to put kickoffs in to the endzone, even with the step up to the 35.
he does not get rattled. but from 45 or 48 yards out, then he's about 50/50.
his replacement in Minny, Blair Walsh set an NFL record for 50+ kicks at ten this year. oh, and he had ten attempts at 50+.

I wonder if Jon Ryan will continue to do kickoffs. He did fine last sunday _________________ Trying is the first step towards failure

Seahawks have informed kicker Steven Hauschka that he'll be placed on Injured Reserve, out for rest of season (calf). _________________

I don't think Longwell is that big of a drop off from Hauschka. Both similar kickers - accurate but not really any range. _________________

for a short period during Hauska's rookie season, he was on the Vikings in training camp. with Longwell at the same time. _________________

And then the Ravens signed him, and when we played you guys that year he said "Thanks for the tryouts, Minnesota! Here's a free victory!".
Hated him ever since, but this year he's been pretty good _________________

Longwell iced him from the sidelines. just stared at him harshly.
now he's full on trolling him, and has his job!
