Per Buffalo Rumblings

Quote:
Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone has made his first assistant coaching hire: Nathaniel Hackett, his offensive coordinator at Syracuse, will be coming to Orchard Park with Marrone to serve as Buffalo's offensive coordinator. ESPN's Brett McMurphy and the Syracuse Post-Standard had the scoop first, with The Buffalo News confirming Hackett's move as well as his role.

I'm not familiar with Hackett, other than the fact that he seemed to be successful at SU.

Cuse fans, what say you?

I find this odd since Marrone came out and said he wanted his coordinators to have NFL experience. A 33 year old college offensive coordinator does not quite meet those requirements(not complaining about the move, just find it interesting).

I know nothing about this guy, but I was hoping for some NFL experience. Oh well...

Hopefully we can be better than the dumpster fire we are now at least. Should take TOO much to do that. Just get rid of our Starting QB and we're on the way there.

Still pessimistic, this hire isn't helping much, but if we get Mel Tucker or a tenured DC, It'll ease my concerns a lot.

We all hated him until about 5 games into this season. He didn't play to the team's strengths or diversify the offense at all in his first season. But he implemented a no-huddle offense like 10 days before the season started, and once we got Justin Pugh back, the offense really clicked. He runs a modified no-huddle West Coast offense, but he doesn't take many shots down field.

Great. So he runs a similar offense to the one we've been running with Gailey except it's no huddle.

Grand.

My first impressions of Hackett without knowing anything about him.

A young guy that completely dedicated himself to learning the K Gun offense. Mix in a little Sean Payton/Drew Brees. I could be 100% wrong.

He does have NFL experience, albeit as an offensive quality control coach.

The only positive thing I can say about Nate Hackett is that his dad Paul Hackett was one of Bill Walsh's disciples.

What is old is new again.

If we can actually bring back the K-gun this time, GREAT.

Otherwise it will be like the last time Hackett coached here as the Quality Control Coach and we ran the No-huddle with Trent Edwards and it lasted all of 4 games before imploding.

It's really hard for me to stop being pessimistic about our franchise at this point. Laughing

Paul Hackett had a great deal to do with this hiring. The Sean Payton connection has been discussed, but Paul Hackett is worth examining. Lateral movement from College Ranks is a concern for me. I would be more comfortable seeing Nathan take a role on the staff.

Next is DC, the most important aspect of this staff. Jets Mike Pettine is a great choice.

I'm cool with it. We need a veteran DC with NFL experience. Marrone is a offensive guy and bringing an up and comer like Hackett is worth the risk. He led Cuse to a very prolific offense while being the OC/TE/QB Coach.
