Why is someone trying to argue the new Jags GM isn't better than Gene Smith when he hasn't even been on the job for 1 day?

Because fans are "celebrating" as if the Jaguars problems are solved. Truth is, we don't know really who's making the calls behind the scenes, and we don't know who Caldwell had a hand in drafting

If you're going to talk non stop about what happened when Caldwell wasn't the GM of Atlanta then you need to compare it to the years before Gene Smith was a GM.

Better question is, why aren't you using the same criteria for Caldwell?

Look at Caldwell's resume and he's followed the same path as Smith's. Caldwell's the "hot" guy because why? Because Bill Polian and Dimitroff speaks highly of him? You mean the same guys who spoke/speaks highly of Gene Smith?

He could turn out to be better than Gene. Or worse. We don't know. I'm just not jumping out of my seat and condemning Smith while proclaiming Caldwell as this grand savior when we really don't know.

You're not making any kind of sense with your post. How many people are "Celebrating" like all the Jags problems are fixed? Sounds like something you think is happening that isn't based in reality. The Jags had a terrible GM, they fired him, and fans are happy that the team is moving on from him.

No one is pretending like Caldwell is some kind of GM genius who can't fail. Is no one allowed to like the fact that the Jags got a new GM, possibly because you're but hurt about Gene Smith being fired?

I don't understand what you are trying to say with your 2nd point. If you want to bash Caldwell for what he did in Atlanta then you need to compare what Gene Smith did with the Jags before 09.

And no one though Gene Smith would be a good GM outside of the Jags organization. Caldwell is a top candidate who had multiple interviews with multiple teams.

Like I said in my original post that you just happened to cut out, Gene Smith was given the job with no search for a GM, he was a huge part of an overall unsuccessful front office and given a raise. Caldwell is from a highly successful front office and multiple teams were interested in him. They're not alike at all.

In his presser, just now, Caldwell said, "I can't imagine a scenario where he'd be a Jacksonville Jaguar." He followed it up by repeating himself after a reporter ask. He then said, "Yes, even if released."

Was he talking about Gabbert?

I missed who he was talking about and I no longer have DVR so I can't rewind it.

Okay, cool. Thanks for clearing that up. Laughing

Would have been shocked if he was talking about Gabbert.

That's interesting. We made him go for as second interview with the Jets to make sure being a Jaguar is what he wanted.

The fact that he said no to Tim Tebow already makes him GOAT GM.

First think he said was, "He is a member of the Jets." He's avoiding a tampering charge.

Doesn't mean anything. He can't say he has interest even if released. That would be tampering.

And yet he shuts the door and you can't let go of the idea of Tebow in Jacksonville. Stop listening to ESPN, Shad won't force him onto Caldwell.

Or you really don't want Tebow and are taking one quote as gospel to convince yourself it isn't gonna happen.

How is what the GM telling the public over what a "report" that it is a done deal with what you are trying to push? Like you said, he is a member of the Jets, our GM doesn't want him. Winning > a gimmick.

edit - if Shad wanted him so bad last year, we would have outbid the Jets.
