I hope we are big spending this FA period.
But based on history, I'm not going to get excited for it.
At the end of the day it takes 2 willing partners to get a deal done. _________________

First off, I love the mock. Great at addressing needs, love the trade compensation for Harvin. However, in regards to the statement above - I disagree. I do not think Wallace is a guy that really falls into a category of a "Spielman guy." Yes, he's young and talented, but he does not have a reputation for having high character. Just my opinion.
Other than that, though. I think you nailed this offseason. _________________

Mike Wallace would be top of the line in terms of free agent WRs. Great production and he is still young. He doesnt have the maturity issues that Bowe seems to have and he doesnt have the injury problems that Jennings has had. Id love Wallace on this team, and I am skeptical that the Steelers would sign him long-term since they committed to Brown and they seem to churn out receivers fiarly easily with Big Ben at QB.
It wouldnt surprise me if Wallace signed with the Vikings, assuming they were the highest bidder. Though with what Wallace thinks of himself, he will want a ton of money. My guess is 5-6 years about $50-55M. |

First and foremost I love that he is an SEC defender; down there you have guys with unreal size/speed combinations. Lester is another of those types as he's 6'2, 210 lbs, and runs in low to mid 4.5's.
The second thing is that he's a true ballhawk. He had 8 INT's in 2010. He only had 2 INT's in 2011 but was very close to having many more, and then he rounded it off with a 4 INT performance this year.
I think pairing him with Harrison Smith could give us a safety combination that rivals the safety combo in Seattle. _________________

I am a big fan of Lester. He is that big, strong player who can play in the box and in deep halves that this defense really needs opposite of Smith. Both Raymond and Sanford are one dimensional so getting another player like Smith, who can play in the box, in centerfield and in deep halves would be ideal. I think Lester can do all three.
This years Safety class is deep, I see Lester as a late 2nd to early 3rd type prospect. |

Lester actually reminds me of Smith in a lot of ways.
Interesting both Lester and Smith had bit Int season to dropoff the following year. |

Personally, I liked him better than Mark Barron. _________________

I didnt like Barron much either coming out, though he is a good fit in Tampa's defense. I dont think he would have been in Minnesota. |

Very good kid, not an off the field issue to report. More of the quiet leader that leads by example. _________________

he does appear to be soft spoken and not an egotist, yes.
this link contains an interview of him from early December, after the Tide beat Georgia:

| I like Shawn Williams better than Lester and think he would be a perfect match for Smith. Williams is a physical; in the box safety that can stop the run and cover too. Lester isn't that great at the line and is very similar to Raymond. |

Williams would be another good add. I gave Lester the nod over Williams because I'd like to see a few more turnovers being forced by our defense.
Either way you're adding a quality SEC guy which is never a bad thing _________________

I wouldnt worry too much about the Safetys playing near the LOS in this scheme. The only games that I recall where the Vikes ran a ton of Cover 3 (with an in the box Safety) were against the 49ers and the Jags, two run oriented teams.
given the division the Vikes play in and where the NFL is headed, the Vikes likely wont rely on its safetys playing in the box all that often. |
