no one, particularly PrplChilPill, said Walsh was a terrible pick.

let's not let sarcasm rule the conversation.

I did, on draft day. Smile

Though, I was under the impression that Walsh was going to compete with Longwell, which wasnt the case.

I generally would never draft a kicker or punter.

Just saying without Walsh, we miss the playoffs without a doubt. Saying that he shouldn't be involved in the discussion of a successful draft from last year is ridiculous IMO. Besides Smith and Kalil, Walsh was arguably our best pick and you can also make the argument he did more for our team than either one of those guys too. But you're right I shouldn't be sarcastic sorry PCP.

Ellison wasn't starting, but was a sleeper TE/FB/HB who performed better, overall, than Carlson.

The entire 2012 draft should be considered, e.g. ST players, and not just starters.

No one has answered my question of how a game can be started without a kickoff. Wink

The brilliance of the Walsh pick was not only in the long distance FGs he made, but the kickoffs on which he forced touchbacks that Longwell rarely ever could. And, that 'brilliance' is not 'luck' because among the scouts who went to see Walsh was ST coach Pfeifer, who realized he could fix flaws in Walsh's kicking motion.

I think its very reasonable to add three opening day starters with the two first round picks and a second round pick. That should be the expectation with those top 50ish picks.

Also, that third round pick will likely be a contributing rotational player, maybe not a starter but possibly a 4th CB or extra DT in the rotation.

I would hope that in the 4th round that the Vikings can find some decent developmental backups/potential starters (maybe a OG and/or S). The rest of the picks should mostly be depth filler spots and special teams players.

So in all, I would hope that MN can land 3 starters, 1 solid rotational player and 2 developmental backups within the first four rounds.

Walsh was a 6th round pick, and while he may only play 10-12 or so plays per game, that is a heck of a lot more production than what most teams get out of there 6th rd picks. Assuming Walsh pans out long-term.

yes, but....

might it make the Colts less likely to draft a high end receiver? leaving another choice for us?

Redskins signed DeAngelo Hall, maybe they'll cool off on Winfield pursuit.

They certainly won't have a whole lot of money to sign him.

I didnt think they had ANY money, but apparently they do and after the RG trade they dont have big draft picks to sign I guess.
