Hey guys, Packer fan here, and I come in peace!
Down here in the Eastern tip of Iowa, I am in the Chicago media market. Hence, I get Bears sports talk.
I have heard several sportscasters referencing the Bears switching to a 3-4? Is there a reason for this? I find it bizarre they would commit to a new scheme when the new HC hasn't been hired yet. _________________

| If Phil Emery is as smart as we think…then there is 0% chance we are switching to a 3-4 regardless of which offensive minded HC we hire. |

When the Bears drafted Shea McClellin last year a lot of people became suspicious that Emery intended to fire Lovie at the end of this season and install a 3-4. At the Lovie just got fired presser Emery basically laid that idea to rest by saying that if the new coach wants to switch to a 3-4 that they would have to convince him they could do it with their current personnel. That being said it is highly unlikely they make the switch, at least this year. _________________

| Emery isn't installing anything. He already stated that the new coach has to convince him that the talent is there for a 3-4. But, for starters, there is nobody to play nosetackle in a traditional 3-4. |

Stole the words right out of my mouth, this thread screamed Shea McClellin from the moment I saw it. Im not a very knowledgeable 3-4 guy, would Melton be able to handle the middle? I see much bigger guys like Casey Hampton and haloti consuming lineman and they seem to have 50 pounds easy on Melton. Would he move to the end? |

For sun the Bears 3-4
DE: Peppers
NT: Paea
DE: Melton
OLB: McClellin
MLB: Roach
MLB: Briggs
OLB: ?
CB: Tillman
CB: Jennings
FS: Conte
SS: Wright
It is not the most hideous thing but it is a stretch.
The only thing that saves us is that Peppers, Melton and Wootton all have the size to be 3-4 1 gap DEs. _________________

| I'm not sure Paea could do well at nose, but it would probably have to be a single gap 3-4 like the Cowboys run, and not the standard 3-4 where the nose is clogging up the entire middle and responsible for two gaps. |

You don't think Peppers would play OLB? Before he left Carolina there were talks of him wanting to play that position. |

He never wanted to play the position, he wanted out of Carolina where he felt he had been disrespected. _________________

Honestly I feel Henry Melton could play DE in a 3-4.
DE: Corey Wootton
NT: Stephen Paea
DE: Henry Melton
OLB: Julius Peppers
ILB: Lance Briggs
ILB: Brian Urlacher/Draftee
OLB: Shea McClellin
I actually like that a lot. _________________

I really don't see the point in switching to a 3-4. Why take away from the strengths of this team? Swtching to a 3-4 and entirely new defense would just create more uncertainties. I say bad move. Switching to a 3-4 just seems like the cool thing to do these days amongst the fans. _________________
