|
|
|
| Quote: | EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Adrian Peterson has been Minnesota's most irreplaceable player for years, piling up 2,097 yards rushing this season alone to put himself in the mix for the NFL's Most Valuable Player award.
This unparalleled contribution to the Vikings and their success, however, hasn't been enough to satisfy Peterson. One of the sport's most relentless competitors, he would like to play on special teams, too.
"For the past two years, I've been trying to get in on field goal block. Come in off the edge, you know? It's just going to take one block for them to really be like, 'OK, you know what? Let's take the chance and let you go out there and get it done,' " Peterson said. "Kickoff return, I wouldn't mind getting back there. I'm in it to win." |

I like the idea though. _________________

| I would consider letting Peterson return kicks if were deep in the playoffs, or in the superbowl and needed instant field position. This is assuming that Harvin isnt available. |

This. If we're down a score with under 30 seconds in a playoff game, Peterson's [inappropriate/removed] better be returning the kick. |

He's on IR and wasn't designated to come off. He's done for the season _________________

Harvin is on IR?
We already took Chris Cook off of IR right?
The rule states only one player can be taken off of IR during the year, after x amount of weeks. _________________

I'm sure Harvin would be a fine kick returner on another team.
OT:
I would love to see Adrian return a key kickoff this weekend if it comes down to us needing a big play. _________________

Right, which was my point. If Harvin is available there is no reason to have Peterson back there since Harvin is so deadly as it is. But iwth Harvin on IR, that of course isnt an option and perhaps letting Peterson return a kick or two in crucial situations wouldnt be the end of the world.
It worked against the Bears in 2007. Put the Vikings in position to kick a game winning field goal if i recall correctly. |

Teams will just squib kick it if Peterson is back there.
There is no way any coach will let their players just kick the ball to him like he's any regular returner. _________________

Teams still kick to Harvin. I would imagine he has to be the most feared kick returner in the league. |

That also could be to our benefit. |

I agree it could work to our benefit, as long as a guy can pick up the ball and carry it correctly without fumbling.
and Peterson is a more feared overall player than Percy Harvin is. Certainly that could factor into the decision if a coach were to not kick to AD.
Its a tough decision for any coach to make. _________________

Priefer said today that the only way Leslie would say yes would maybe be in a final minute scenario. _________________
