A little bird told me that the Raiders told Lechler that he is not coming back. So it looks like it will be King on the cheap. I actually like the move because we won't be paying over $4M for a punter.
And the idiot McClain came into the facility on the last day singing about how he wasn't gonna be a Raider any more. Good riddance to that dude. After the years that he has been here he still hasn't matured one bit.

| King is the cheaper option, has a huge leg, and is still under contract for 2 more years. I feel that our staff really likes him. |

I actually think it's pretty smart that we're going to let Lechler walk. He'll be 37 at the beginning of next season and he's not worth the money that we'd have to pay to keep him around. I think King will be just as good for a fraction of the cost and he's only 24.
You could probably argue that McKenzie's best move since being hired was finding King.

King is in. Its pretty significant that the best punter in the last 20 years is out.
Who knows on the linebacker front.

Also they may try to get some trade value out of him. Lots of teams need ILB this year. Just off the top of my head. ARI, CHI, BAL. |

While King has a big leg, he's very inconsistent. While Shane is hardly worth the money on a bad team, we've been spoiled by expert punting.
King has a tendency to shank punts, so hopefully he's taking the time to correct this, work on his ball placement and footwork.
Also, let's not forget Shane holds all Jano's kicks. In preseason with King holding it was a mess.
Personally, I think the staff will bring in competition for the job. Far from a lock for King.
