I am on the side that says we need to stick with the 43, but the next person who says he cannot fit the 34 defense should lose all credibility IMO. |
I agree Kam. The problem is DQ, who has shown he can't play either ILB position in the 3-4. |
I think DQ is overrated in a 43 so yeah I would hate him in a 34.
Like I said I am on the 43 side of the arguement. I was just definding my guy Gocong who a lot of Browns fans don't really appreciate or understand how good he actually has been here. So many act like he is a crap linebacker and some even wanted him cut for the longest time. Now he is hurt and every acts like he has no future. _________________

I would rather get kicked in the nuts by a horse than go back to the 3-4. _________________

Rucker - dont think can translate successfully.
Kitchen - I dont believe he can be the primary rotation player at NT for that many snaps, and that forces Hughes into the N position even if he can play beside Rubin.
Acho - cut/PS
Davis, English, Stephens, Adams, Elmore - none are quality players, and I do not think any should even be #2s on the depth chart at OLB.
In the end I think the team would need a couple 3-4 DEs and a whole lot of help at OLB... and pray that Sheard and everyone else can all successfully translate.
I think the strength of this team is the DL, not the LBs... that does not suit switching to a 3-4. _________________

Look ma no new FA's or draft picks even. |
Now just wave your magic wand, and they will all immediately perform at the same -or higher - level in the system they weren't signed or drafted to play in. The two years of concepts, responsibilities and trust built all go back to square one.
Hopefully the men in charge of the decision aren't as naive. |

Well, if he's a 4-3 DC, he wont ask the players to play positions they have zero experience playing.
If he's a 3-4 DC, he will. _________________

they have run a 3 man line in a lot of passing situations this year. So Zero is little low on the experiance skill. _________________ The Dawgpounds new three headed monster!

We run a 3 man line in prevent, it's entirely different. _________________

some are just too thick headed. |
Yes, the thick-headed ignore points that contradict them and misdirect with comments about the individuals making the points instead of the points themselves.
There are 4 gaps between the tackles, right?
There are 3 linemen right?
Someone is playing 2 gaps right? |
The gap system refers to the DEs.
In either 34 system, the NT is responsible for both A gaps. |
Except for the site he gave me as proof of this "one gap" 34, had the RDE playing 2 gaps. |
I don't know what site your talking about, I must have missed that conversation.
But the DE can play either gap. But in the one gap system, the DE will only play one at a time. "shooting the gap" type, like HOU and SF.
in a 2 gap, the DE is responsible for maintaining his spot and controlling the OL and the gaps on either side every play. "staying at home"
Its very difficult to find DE's to fit the 2 gap 23 system, the Crennel tried to install here.
A one gap system would be much easier to install, but take a good play calling coach. _________________ 2013 First Ballot Recipient of the Joe Blackburn Award |

Jauron is still with the team, and likely will continue to be. There is no need to completely overhaul this defense.
If a 4-3 is still ran, many of the concepts and responsibilities will remain the same. It's not a wholesale change like switching to a 3-4.
Unless someone produces that magic trick that makes 4-3 players just as good in a 3-4. If that's the case, by all means tinker away with something that ain't broke. |
