Yup....if it's a kicking competition, Akers should have no problem beating him.

I like the signing, at least if it's no longer than 45-50 we don't have to hold our breaths.

Cundiff has missed multiple 30 yarders this year.....

Special Teams was a main factor in us missing the superbowl last year and the same could hold true this year. Do not trust Ginn, Akers, or Cundiff at all.
Don't really like this signing. Would have preferred Dave Rayner, Neil Rackers, Ryan Longwell, or even John Kasay. Even Nate Kaeding would have been better, his playoff misses were all from 50+ yards. If we were a little more proactive we could have signed Josh Brown from the Bengals a few weeks ago. He's gone 11/12 for the Bengals this year. He signed with them after their original kicker went on IR.
Not really sure why we waited this long and it could really come back to haunt us soon. Of all the positions to hold us back from a superbowl, a freaking kicker  |

Cundiff missed some easy field goals early this season with Washington.
Akers is better IMO

you guys need to calm down.
Harbaugh bought him in to compete. We all know that Harbs likes to have competition. In my opinion Akers will start unless he is hurt or he legitimately looks worse then Cundiff in practice.
They tried out kickers earlier in the year in hopes to kick Akers in the butt. It didnt work, so now they sign one. If he out performs Akers then he earned it just like Akers deserves to lose the job.
IMO Akers ill be the kicker. I think this is about sending a message that Akers clock is ticking

Could we possibly have both on the active roster and do some situational kicking... Cundiff on the shorter than 45, Akers on the 45+, or something. I don't know. At this point, I don't want either to handle anything except kickoffs.

what are you failing to comprehend?? medlock missed one cundiff didnt while looking better on kick offs...i think everyone is over-reacting, and hopefully were not even in a position where the kicker matters.
