I find it kind of interesting after the great power struggle of 2012, that howie is the last man standing. Reid and Banner are gone and now Howie will have a lot of say into things moving forward.
How do you think he will do? If it's true that he had a lot of say in the 2012 draft then I think the best from him could still be yet to come. Especially with Reid's influence gone.

It'll be interesting to see how he goes without Reid there. Our top 5 pick is going to be critical for him. It that pick doesn't work out, he'll be known forever for blowing the first top 5 pick we had in over a decade.
Overall, everyone now knows he's the man in the firing line and given our teams fall from grace over the last few years, he'll be under intense scrutiny (whether he deserves it or not). _________________

Anyways, i'm excited to see what he does this coming offseason. He was the one responsible for the previous draft and its exciting to see what he does without AR's final say. _________________

He gets to much blame for the Dream Team acquisitions and to much credit for the 2012 draft. What he accomplished working the cap in 2011 has nothing to do with the inability of the coaching staff to utilize them properly the past two years. The fact he has managed to extended numerous players and have contracts that are cap friendly (can be cut) going into 2013 should be commended. It is that reasoning why he was never in danger of loosing his job as many of you speculated. As for the 2012 draft. Yes I believe he had more say in players to be drafted because Banner was not in his way when discussing players with Reid. However that draft was still a AR draft regardless if people want to give him.credit or not. The ultimate Yes-No came from the coach to be fired without a good record. Howie has been a long time talent evaluator for Banner. I believe Banner was the one responsible for the advice Andy used when making picks. The failures of the drafts from 09'-11' coupled with the monumental screwing of the pooch where Dawk was concern led to his exit. Let's hope that exit is what Howie needed to Excel. _________________

In the Andy Reid firing press conference Lurie did say that Howie didn't really have any responsibility until this past draft, while all of us were excited about its prospects at the time (and still are) I think this says a little bit. He said Howie gained his position through his player evaluations.
I'm excited to see what Howie can do now that he's been given the steering wheel. _________________

I think Howie did a good job with lining up the ability to even assemble the dream team....obviously it was an utter failure but you can't argue it was impressive how he got what were good NFL players in here on cheapish team friendly deals. It was Andy's call who they added and Howie helped set up the options for him. He doesn't come out clean from that but it's not on him.
I'll take Lurie at his word that the 2012 draft was the first real thing that Howie had a lot of power in. And if that's the case hopefully he can continue to do a good job. Only time and championships can make him a great one.
It sounds like his role will more of a partnership with whomever gets to job....not too different to how it was with Reid...and that's fine by me. Still wasn't comfortable with him having full control.
But it's too early to really tell. _________________

From what I understand, Lurie looked back on all of his past notes from Howie Roseman, Tom Heckertt, Joe Banner, Andy Reid, current Colts GM Ryan Grigson, and other scouts from the previous seasons and realized that Howie Roseman's scouting notes were by far the most accurate, and consistently better than the other's.
This could just be 100% spin from Lurie, but we'll see. I, for one, am more and more willing to give Roseman a shot after hearing him talk more and more to the media.
BTW, Happy New Years everyone, I hope everyone made it home safely. |

| Well the new coach will probably be hired as VP of personnel so i think the new HC will have more say than for other teams. It all depends on the new coach really. We have to draft players for our schemes. There is no doubt that Howie is a wizard with our cap numbers. |
