Feeling down about Sunday's loss, need a therapeutic mock...

Scenario:
~We win the Wildcard Round of the playoffs, before being defeated by the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round
~We are awarded the 25th pick
~We are awarded a 4th round compensatory pick for Matt Flynn

Released/Not resigned/Retired:
~Jermichael Finley
~Charles Woodson
~Greg Jennings
~Cedric Benson
~Donald Driver
~Jeff Saturday

Resigned:
~Evan Dietrich Smith

~Sam Shields

~Erik Walden

~Tom Crabtree

Free Agency
~Steven Jackson RB St. Louis Rams

The marriage of the Packers and Steven Jackson could very well be a match made in heaven. At his age, Jackson likely would be cheap, but he still is effective. He has enough “tread on the tires” where he would be damn effective as our starting RB.

An upgrade over Cedric Benson and a quality back to prove as a stopgap as Alex Green develops.

Honestly, he very well might be the missing piece.

The Draft:
With the 25th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...
Barrett Jones C Alabama
6’5” 311 lbs. 5.10/40

Dear lord, there is just so much to love about this prospect. Athletic and strong, smart as a whip, and a “Packer Person” true and true. Versatile as the day as long, Jones best position is Center where he should be all world, however, he can play all five positions.

In short, this would be a Home Run.

With the 57th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...
Joseph Fauria TE UCLA
6’7” 258 lbs. 4.69/40

Fauria is undervalued. Seriously.

Quick, fast, excellent route runner, and a damn good blocker. Lines up often in the slot and shows flashes of being able to be used like we used to use Finley. Plus, the guy is a damn effective red zone weapon who is able to use his height and frame well in the end zone.

Should make us forget about Finley.

With the 89th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...
Brandon Jenkins DE/OLB Florida State
6’3” 260 lbs. 4.67/40

Like the Barenaked Ladies, TT is all about value! Jenkins is a prospect who would have for sure been a 1st round DP if it weren’t for a broken foot that sidelined him for his entire senior season.

Bad for him, but good for us! Jenkins gives us an insurance policy just in case Nick Perry doesn’t come through or might beat him outright.

With the 125th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...
Andrew Jackson ILB Western Kentucky
6’1” 265 lbs. 4.72/40

An undervalued tackling machine at ILB and a guy whose small school status leaves him overlooked, but that guy is a tackling machine. Held his own against powerhouses like Florida or Alabama, Jackson is like a bigger, thicker DJ Smith IMHO.

With the 134th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...
Brandon Williams DE/DT Missouri Southern
6'2" 328 lbs. 5.20/40

I just don't see another mid level DL I like as much as this guy.

Williams is both a pass rusher and space eater and gives us flexibility to use him in both base and Nickel. He can play both LDE and RDE and really could be a big time steal.

Strong as a bull, athletic, nimble and a damn fine pass rusher this kid could be the diamond in the rough you look for in Round 4.

With the 164th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...
Rontez Miles S California (PA)
6’1” 206 lbs. 4.56/40

Physical, versatile and an absolute demon on special teams. A steal this late.

With the 182nd pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...
Quincy McDuffie WR/KR Central Florida
5’9” 178 lbs. 4.34/40

One of the nation’s top return men, that is fast as lightning and equally as electric! Want a guy to allow Randall Cobb to play WR exclusively? McDuffie is the guy. He is averaging 27.7 yards per return throughout his career and his senior season returned only 16 kicks - and took three back for TDs! Shocked

With the 210th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select...
Dustin Hopkins K Florida State
6’2” 190 lbs.

Consistent 75% FG kicker in college has hit beyond 50 yards several times throughout his career. A good prospect to challenge Crosby for his starting job.

If it shook out that way I probably wouldn't complain

You did swing for the fences, I'll give you that. Whether its a triple or a double I'm not sure

Okay, could you give me something to go on? Where are your concerns?

I like it Dain. I think it addresses a great need on the offensive line.

I think Jackson will go higher, and I like him better on the strong side, where we have depth.

Miles is a SS, and I'd prefer a FS.

Rather not waste a pick on a K.

It's a solid mock, I really can't complain about any of these prospects because they all have potential. You really should be proud of this mock. I don't see it as a home run, but I'll gladly take the triple. As you can see all of my "concerns" (if you can even call them that) are just personal preference.

Well, first of all, thank you for the feedback - and the kind words.

~Jackson higher? He's been projected consistently as a 4th round pick the whole season. As far as us not having depth at the WILB, we do have two darn good WILBs who are hurt. Jones is our 3rd and frankly for a 3rd stringer is playing darn well.
~We did just draft McMillian last year and the organization is very high on him. Players make the biggest leap in between years 1 and 2. I think McMillian will be the starter and Jennings will be his backup. Besides I took Miles more as a ST demon.
~I'd rather not waste a pick on a K either, then again, I'd rather not lose in games because we have no kicker.

Am I to assume that the lack of responses is due to the fact people see this as good of a mock as I do? Rather proud of it frankly...

Pretty good. You have 8 picks finally! Laughing Here are some thoughts.

Jones: Solid pick. Can't complain.

Fauria: Not worth the spot here. If we take any TE in the 2nd I'd want it to be Eifert (I'm ok wit him in the 2nd, not the 1st), Ertz, or Toilolo. I don't have a 2nd round grade on any other TEs. Fauria is a 4th for me, and you mentioned his blocking? He's not a good blocker. Not from what I've seen.

Jenkins: Had him here in a mock I was working on that I may end up scrapping (can't get the top of it right, don't want to put something out that I feel I half assed). Like the pick.

Jackson, Williams, Miles: Solid picks. I've used 2/3 and I also like Jackson.

McDuffie: Interesting pick. I don't think returner is a need that we draft though. You can get good returners as UDFA. See Ross, Jeremy. Also we'll have Ross next year as well so I doubt we spend a pick on someone like McDuffie. If you wanted to take someone like Tavon Austin and stick him at returner like we did Cobb to start, I have no problem with that. I just don't see the point in a return specialist like McDuffie/Hester like you do.

Hopkins: I'm never going to put a kicker in any of my mocks. I've seen just about everyone else do it. I doubt we draft one. Odds are if we bring in competition, its UDFA or that kicker from like Norway.

Thank you for the thoughts:
~I agree Ertz is better than Fauria, in fact, to me Ertz is the best TE in the draft, but I doubt he's there at #57. I'm not sure he'll even be there at the start of Round 2. I am aware of what draft boards say right now, this guy is gonna creep up IMO.
~There is a difference between getting just a return guy and a dynamic returner. Same thing with taking a K. McDuffie and Hopkins are two guys that can be special on special teams.

I would be happy. Barrett Jones just makes so much sense for the OL.

Not sure I see Ted investing in Jackson with the amount of mileage on his legs. I think some team will value him more, and pay him more. I'd love to have him on the right deal though.

I don't hate the Barrett Jones pick, but I also don't love it. I don't see an elite center prospect (Nick Mangold, Alex Mack) when I watch Jones play. I think he's more natural at guard, but I think he's a great "glue" guy. Something I always thought T.J. Lang's real calling guard was.

Is Joseph Fauria an upgrade over Finley? Personally, I don't think so. He can't block worth a lick, and I don't think he's a Jimmy Graham/Tony Gonzalez kind of receiver so I'd rather just keep Finley especially if we're letting Greg Jennings walk.

Probably could get Jenkins later. Had a monster sophomore season, regressed last year, and missed most of this season with an injury. Also, a little concerned about his ability to play in space.

Andrew Jackson is a two-down ILB IMO. If we're looking for a MIKE, I'd rather look at Chase Thomas. He's a heck of a football player, and brings an added dimension as a pass rusher from the inside something the Packers don't have with Desmond Bishop on the IR.

Haven't really seen Williams play, but sounds interesting. Same with Miles and McDuffie. Like competition for Crosby.

Overall, not a bad mock just don't see logic of getting rid of Finley and Jennings and only adding Fauria (whom I don't see as an upgrade over a healthy Quarless right now).
