If that's your reasoning then how come in 2010 Pete Carroll chose Earl Thomas over Taylor Mays?

Just because a coach has ties to a player doesn't guarntee that they will take them in the draft.

I was going to use that example, but Mays sucks too bad to even be worth posting about.

Would rather have Brandon Lloyd.

Brandon Lloyd is one of the strangest stories I can recall in the NFL. Early on in his career I actually read one analyst who felt he would take over the Rice/Owens legacy in the 49ers, then he was traded to the Redskins and seemed to be ready to drop out of the league. The Bears signed him out of desperation and he was mediocre. He spent a very nondescript yer in Denver, then somehow suddenly became the NFL's leading receiver (or at least close to it) in 2010 . . . only to get traded the next year, despite having a meager salary and acceptable production.

I don't know what it is with this guy, but no one wants him and I can't explain it. I know he's not an elite player as his 2010 numbers might have suggested, but he's also not a scrub.

He has some of the best route running I've ever seen. He makes his cuts on dimes and obviously has an amazing ability to catch the ball from any position with his great hands. I really don't understand how he's not constantly putting up 1,000 yard seasons. If you watch a highlight reel of him he looks like a top 10 receiver. His "spectacular catch" rating is consistently the only 99 in that category in Madden every year haha.

Once again, what does that have to do with anything? On one hand, you have bpa in a position of need. On the other, you have a player you coached in college who plays a position you don't necessarily need to fill.

Hmmmmm

Detroit Lions to take DE Ezekiel Ansah, not OT Eric Fisher in latest WalterFootball.com mock draft

Quote:
In mid-March, a WalterFootball.com mock draft was on team Fisher, projecting that Detroit would choose the Mount Pleasant tackle based on the following criteria:

There was speculation that the Lions were going to kick last year's first-rounder, Riley Reiff, inside to guard, opening up a need at right tackle. Eric Fisher was discussed as a possibility to the Lions at No. 5 overall at that point.
And then Jeff Backus retired. Detroit now obviously has to find a left tackle in addition to a right tackle if the coaching staff does indeed plan on moving Reiff.

If Fisher is available at No. 5, he's a no-brainer. He'd fill a huge need and satisfy Detroit's "best player available" policy.

But as of Tuesday afternoon, they're changing their tune. According to the site - one of the largest mock draft databases available - Fisher s projected to go No. 4 to the Philadelphia Eagles, while Detroit is projected to select Ezekiel Ansah at No. 5, due to the following situations:

The Lions need defensive end help with Kyle Vanden Bosch getting cut and Cliff Avril entering free agency. If they can't get any pressure on the quarterback, Aaron Rodgers is going to continue to shred their secondary, no matter who is starting back there.
The coaching staff had a close look at Ezekiel Ansah at the Senior Bowl and is reportedly smitten with him. Ansah's potential makes him a candidate to be chosen No. 5 overall.

Talking to an Eagles fan I know and he absolutely wants Philly to take Fisher.

If the OT's are gone and we're stuck at 5, Ansah seems to probably make the most sense right now. Though we don't know what the Lions staff are thinking so maybe they like someone else better there.

Trade down w/ Miami, allow them to have Lane Johnson.

I want to see my mock come to fruition! Very Happy

Lions have a visit scheduled with Dion Jordan.

Could he be a dark horse for our pick?
