Some historical data...
2004
OC - Pittsburgh (Cowher was HC)
Whis called 63.3% running plays / 36.7% passing plays (Roethlisberger was a rookie)
W/L Record: 15 - 1
Lost to Patriots in AFC Championship
2005
OC - Pittsburgh (Cowher was HC)
Whis called 59.2% running plays / 40.8% passing plays
W/L Record: 11 - 5
Won Super Bowl
2006
OC - Pittsburgh (Cowher was HC)
Whis called 47.3% running plays / 52.7% passing plays
W/L Record: 8 - 8
Did not make playoffs
As you can see, Whis has run offenses that relied more on the running game than what he has utilized here, so it certainly should not be a foreign idea to him! Now, of course, the success the Steelers had or didn't have did not rest solely on Whis' playcalling. However, it's not hard to imagine that running the ball more than the ~39% he's averaged as HC of the Cards might just be an effective way to: 1) Keep opposing D's guessing, 2) Limit the opposition's scoring chances vs. our D, and 3) Close out a game when we actually do get a lead!
Unfortunately, given the significant chance that Whis remains HC, it feels like about all I can do is pray that someone reminds Whis of his past success with a more frequently used rushing attack and hope he takes the hint. _________________

A whiz decision needs to be made monday afternoon. |
1. That's not what the report says. The report says he COULD start making visits quote "as early as Tuesday". Nothing it that report said he "will" make visits Tuesday.
2. Even if he does make a visit Tuesday, so what? He's not getting hired Tuesday...
There's no reason to rush a Whiz decision. There's no deadline here, we've got time to think this through. _________________

I'll bite my tongue on some of the comments made here.
Will be very happy to have Whiz back if he does indeed stay. All we need is a QB worth a damn and we're in playoffs. _________________ Legends Never Die. They Breathe Through The New Generation.

i agree. but which qb do you identify as worth a damn cause i have a hard time getting behind one. If im backing any one its trading back into the first round for mike glennon after taking a tackle at 7 |

Speculation is also, per Jurecki, that Todd Haley may be a name to watch if he can get a release from deal in Pittsburgh.

@jinkered Turner would be great as OC. Would also open the door possibly for Alex Smith, who had success with Turner in SF.

Yup I just watched that and Jurecki said that Horton 'WILL" be visiting on the east coast Tuesday so Champ we do need to move quickly. If whiz doesnt want to make any changes then let him go promote Ray and see about brining haley or turner in here.
Lets get this done. |

| I would ignore that Turner and Alex smith comment bcuz if you look at the season that Alex and Norv were together you'd see that Alex was average or below average and the 9ers finished 7-9. Stretch to say Alex Smith door opens with turner as oc |

He was talking about Whiz only offering Haley/Arians the WR coach jobs. Good thing they declined. Both got OC jobs shortly after...
As for Alex & Norv, their top 3 recievers were Antonio Bryant, Arnaz Battle and Eric Johnson so I'm not taking much from that season. _________________

IMO, Alex Smith ends up with the Jets. Very similar mold as the 9ers, team wise _________________ Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.

No we don't!!! For the 2nd time, he's not getting hired Tuesday...There is no rush to this AT ALL.
Besides that, the report says he's interviewing on the East Coast. The only East Coast team with a vacancy is Philadelphia and per Schefter, he's not even a top 5 candidate over there. He'd just be fulfilling their Rooney Rule requirements. _________________

There it is boys, Whiz is out. I'll always be thankful for that Super Bowl run in 2008, I'll ALWAYS be thankful for that. Kurt, Larry and Whiz, they did it. I'll never forget it, till the day I kick the bucket but it was time. I said it 3 months ago, it was time.
Wish Whiz the best of luck wherever he ends up. _________________
