Chargers are hoping to retain Vaughn Martin, but plenty of competition. Eagles, Lions, Saints and Pats are also interested

Would like to get some depth at NT/DE!

We're showing interest in McKinnie. Hopefully I called this one Wink would fill a major need for probably pretty cheap. I'd take McKinnie over Nnamdi as a stop gap.

If we stay away from Nnamdi and get McKinnie, Butler and Martin instead I'd be pretty happy. Wouldn't even mind drafting a Corner like Rhodes or Trufant then!

Ya know... with all the restructures going on it would seem that Roman Harper would have been a candidate for it but that is only IF the Saints have plans on retaining him past this season.

This got me thinking... This is a fairly deep safety class at the top. Safety is arguably our weakest position on defense. Does anyone think it's possible that the Saints either draft Vaccaro at 15 or trade down to the back half of round 1 for either Elam, Cyprien or Reid then look to dump Harper for like a 7th round pick?

No one would give up a 7th for Roman Harper. He's old, declining and has a large salary.

Tennessee might, but that's about it, but they do have Bernard Pollard now...

I could see Cincinnati maybe giving up a late pick for him, they currently just have Taylor Mays there who is still worse than Harper right now, they have plenty of cap space, and Harper has 2 years left on his deal. You bring in Harper let Mays develop some more and then when Harpers deal over Mays starts. Until then Harper holds down the starting position next to Reggie Nelson and gives them a safety that will be better in run support which in the NFC North is pretty important with guys like Trent Richardson and Ray Rice, not to mention his ability to blitz will help against big, physical, mobile QBs like Flacco and Roethlisberger who might be able to escape pressure a little easier vs DEs compared to a blitzing safety.

I mean I can understand that sentiment completely, I mean he has a big cap hit, he's older, and outside of the redzone his coverage is suspect at best.

But Cincinnati is a team that made the playoffs and just lost their top 2 safeties and will be relying on Taylor Mays who hasn't exactly shown to be the greatest when he has hit the field. By grabbing a proven player like Harper for cheap, at least in terms of compensation, the team would be able to further bolster their Super Bowl contender status compared to starting Mays.

Now I can see many different possibilities playing out, we keep him, we sign a 1st round safety and cut him, we sign a 1st round safety and trade him, we sign any safety and move him or even keep him. Right now there are a lot of things to consider, one of which is how much cap space do we really save. Might not be a lot this year for us, but next year might be a good amount. Who knows.

Just really depends on where Rob Ryan, Payton, and the rest of the staff/front office feels we are in both cap space and his worth to the team.

I could truthfully see the Saints trade back from #15 to the late 1st round and get a 2nd round pick, draft Matt Elam with the 1st rounder, draft a pass rusher like Jamie Collins in the 2nd, then draft Bacarri Rambo in the 3rd and look to move on from both safeties as early as this year if not the following.

Why do I keep hearing that we need to get a FS. I agree Jenkins is not ideal, to put it nicely, but the guy I want the starting job to go to is already on the team.

Isa Abdul-Quddus

Let him play Ryan.

Everywhere I see, people have IAQ as a SS not a FS. Now why not have both as I don't see Rafael Bush as a starter in the NFL and I feel both IAQ and Rambo could start at either position.

+1. Nobody is going to give up anything for Harper. His contract is way out of proportion to what kind of player he is.

Rob Ryan just ran the linebacker drills at the LSU pro day. Would like to know how Mingo looked?

Any news on rookies who will visit with the Saints? Been pretty quiet so far!
