2004 draft - we took Ben at 1.11. Buffalo drafted at 1.13. They traded up from the 2nd round to draft JP Losman at 1.22. Think they take Ben instead of Lee Evans if he falls past us to 1.13?

some other notable (recent) draft picks

2005:
1.11 - DeMarcus Ware
1.12 - Shawne Merriman
1.17 - David Pollack
1.18 - Erasmus James

2006:
1.12 - Haloti Ngata
1.13 Kam Wimbley
1.16 - Jason Allen
1.17 - Chad Greenway
1.18 - Bobby Carpenter

2007:
1.11 - Patrick Willis
1.12 - Marshawn Lynch
1.14 - Darrelle Revis
1.16 - Justin Harrell
1.17 - Jarvis Moss
1.18 - Leon Hall

2008:
1.12 - Ryan Clady
1.18 - Joe Flacco (tee hee)

2009:
1.13 - Brian Orakpo
1.15 - Brian Cushing
1.16 - Larry English
1.18 - Robert Ayers

2010:
1.11 - Anthony Davis
1.14 - Earl Thomas
1.15 - Jason Pierre-Paul
1.17 - Mike Iupati
1.18 - Maurkice Pouncey (finally, the 1.18 is pretty good)

2011:
1.11 - JJ Watt
1.16 - Ryan Kerrigan
1.18 - Corey Liuget (again, pretty darn good, but JJ WATT!?!?!)

ouch

No offense, but this is cherry picking and hindsight.

And alot of the teams that you are citing are teams that usually draft poorly and miss the playoffs pretty much every year.

Also, there are no prospects in this entire draft class on the level of what guys like Willis and Watt were coming out.

yes, it is cherry picking and hindsight.

I'm just posting the difference is all.

doesn't mean we would've taken any of those guys.

Just showing the potential difference of who was taken and who would've been available.

of all seasons to not worry too much about 1.17 vs. 1.12, this is one of them. No JJ Watt, as you said.

I'm still going to [inappropriate/removed] though because I'm grumpy.

I hear ya.

Just saying that regardless of where we pick, we still have to pick a quality player, and we usually do a solid job of that. I have faith in Colbert and Tomlin...even if its a player I dont personally like. At least until they prove they arent good.

To be honest, Im over it.

I was grumpy during the season when I realized this team was average at best and not likely to get any better.

If I had any faith in our team making a SB run, Id probably be more upset.

Unfortunately, I think we wouldve most definitely been one and done.

No offense, but thats poor logic.

We pick lower than the Browns every single year and we are still better than them every single year.

Picking higher doesnt guarantee you anything.

And in this draft, there is really no true cant miss talent.

Also...last year, everyone thought we had no chance of DeCastro, and we ended up with him anyway.

Players fall, and drafting 4 spots later isnt likely to make a dramatic difference, if any at all.

I wouldve prefered to lose too since the win does nothing, but either way its not a huge deal. Its not like its the difference between the 16th pick and 2nd overall. In that case, that would be different.

I don't care...like Keth, I'm grumpy, so I get to state, my "poor logic" arguments all I want!!! Laughing

...and poor Browns. When's the last time they have had a HC for more than 5 years straight!! GM??

You may be right so some positions but the Dline and oline depth in this draft for the 1st round is amazing. Even picking at 17th the Steelers could get Ansah or Hankins fall to them. Montgomery is a possibility. They could get the 1st WR off the board ( I hope not). Te'o could fall that far easily. They could get a really good OT. They can get the 1st safety off the board.

While the QB/RB depth in this draft suck there will be a play maker fall that far just because there is so much talent in the lines in the draft.

Towards the end, I agree with it as it seemed as if the team was going nowhere. However, when the steelers were on their nice little win streak prior to Ben's injury, I really thought that if we got all our guys back healthy we could make a serious run at the championship. During that time, it was looking as if the steelers were a team nobody wanted to play come playoffs

So we win and rob ourselves of 4-5 spots, at the same time, increasing the Browns draft position by a spot.

Regardless, this year will "hopefully" be an anomoly that we are drafting from a non-playoff position. The cost of moving up for an impact player will be less than most years, so if the opportunity or need presents itself, this is the year Colbert should consider making a move up. We can't always expect a DD-type player drops to us.

Remember the year Cower benched Bettis and went 5 wide most of the year. I think we finished 7-9 that year and got a franchise QB a couple of months later. I never want to lose but 8-8 or 7-9 is not much different for such a big difference in draft posisition

Agreed...you can add in a top CB or the top OG as well.
