Just thought I'd pass on the fact that it was made official that Munch is staying on for another year.

UGH!
Tom Moore or Mike Tice better be our OC next season, along with any of these 4 being our DC. (Lovie Smith, Ron Rivera, D. Jauron, or Rod Marinelli and possibly Romero Crennel) _________________

Like whom? |
Wimbley is best as a 3-4 OLB. Ayers is the other 3-4 OLB. McCarthy and Brown as the 2 ILBS. Morgan IMO would make a good 3-4 DE. Casey can either move to the other DE or play NT. Mike Martin played NT in college in a 3-4. The only piece we really miss is a NT. It's not perfect but neither is our current 4-3 defense. |
Congratulations, you've just fielded the smallest 3-4 defense known to man. I hope you're happy giving up 10 yards per run to just about every team you come up against. |
Smallest? Are you kidding me? Have you seen Houston's front 7? Both Watt and Smith are around 280-290. Morgan is around 275 and Casey is like 310 with Martin being around 300. Wimbley is around 265 playing a 4-3 DE. I'm sure he'll be able to play 3-4 OLB. It's not like he's never played it before Ayers in college played everywhere and is best when rushing the passer. The only small part is the the ILBS. Once again, I said it was a work in progress but what the hell do we have now? You don't have to have 300+ all across the D-Line and 255+ at LB to run a 3-4. _________________

I don't know if I would want us to switch to the 3-4, but we could have the personnel for it... just a true NT away, although I do believe Casey would be a decent fill in/#2.
Draft a NT... there are 3 potential NT's in the 1st... a few others that could be had in the later rounds...
...........Marks....... Hankins/Casey.......Morgan/Martin.........
Wimbley..........Brown...........McCarthy............Ayers
or, if they decide to take Manti in the 1st:
.........Marks......Jenkins/Casey.........Morgan/Martin........
Brown/Wimbley............Te'o...........McCarthy...........Ayers
Of course... its not ideal... arguably our 2 best players are left as tweeners out of position in the 3-4 (Brown and Morgan)... but it could be done... and those guys could be used as valuable trade bait if Crennel didn't think he could fit them in...
I'm not saying we could do it... or we should do it... or anything like that... I'm just saying we're not far from it actually being a reality... the personnel are actually there for it... Wimbley/Ayers/McCarthy/Marks/Martin would all be smooth transitions at 5 of those 7 positions. And Casey would not be a stretch to be asked to play the nose. _________________

| Thank you Bud, for canning Reinfeldt. I think that's the move above all else that needed to happen. Now go revamp the coaching staff and be aggressive in the FA market and maybe next year is looking up. |

Only 1 year as the GM, and he inherited most of MR's decisions. Will be interesting to see if they get some other type of exec / architect to fill MR's role. Would put everyone else still around on notice.
My main concern is Munch not having good enough backing to bring in quality coordinators. Needs to be able to offer multi-year contracts, which it's looking like he should be able to do with his contract running through 2014. |

Another DC candidate I'd like is Eric Mangini. He's been out of football for a few years and can run both 3-4 and 4-3. _________________

Lovie Smith as a DC wouldn't be bad to me... |

Getting rid of Reinfeldt makes no sense whatsoever.
The talent is there on the team... is getting fired for Munch? Yet Munch gets to stay? How exactly does that work? Or was it for promoting Webster... who also gets to stay?
This team really has no hope until new ownership takes over and stops making moves like these. Ridiculous, idiotic, inexplicable... _________________

Not sure if Mangini would want to leave ESPN.. He seems to fit perfectly into their NFL programs with his ability to break down game tape. However, I wouldn't mind him if he were to be interested in the job. _________________
