What was Brace's problem? injuries? Scheme? Work ethic? I'm going with mostly laziness. It's a shame, I had high hopes for him. _________________

It knocked him out for the first half of last season, and he was on the injury report with an elbow injury just a few weeks ago. _________________ Shut up, NBT |

His inconsistency seemed to me mostly technique-related. Read into that what you will. _________________

Matt Light and Gronk are the only 2nd round picks to get resigned by the end of their rookie deal during the BB era according to Jeff Howe _________________

I don't think we can add Chung to that list either, or Ras-I Dowling... _________________

Bit premature on Dowling
Chung, probably not.
That said, it's not really a uniquely Patriot phenomenon. Something like 60% of 2nd rounders aren't with their drafting team after their rookie contract. Either they get cut before their deal ends or they go onto greener pastures. |

| Don't really understand the fascination with either Aiken or Williams. Probably just need bodies for tomorrow's game in case some game-time decision types can't go. |

He showed enough last year to warrant being brought back, especially given the poor quality of DT's on the roster outside of Wilfork |

When you are being replaced by an UDFA, you are pretty much useless especially with that contract and the fact that he was a 2nd round pick. _________________

"That contract"? Brace was making a whole $200K more than Kyle Love and was only making $777K this year.
As for the 2nd round status - I don't see how that's germane at all. He showed flashes last year of being a solid rotational lineman. Obviously, injuries and consistency issues got in the way. But to say that he wasn't worth keeping this year because Love outplayed him last year is just silly.
A guy can be a disappointment relative to his draft status and still be a useful piece.
All of that said, he was a questionable pick from the get go and one of the few examples of the Pats reaching for a position (trying to find a viable backup if they were unable to re-sign Wilfork) and then not having a plan as to what to do with him. He isn't really a great fit for a 3-4 5-technique and doesn't seem to be worth keeping as a 4-3 3-technique. I do think he is the type of guy that could find success elsewhere with the right coach/scheme. |

That's a lot of recent 2nd round picks falling down the plughole now. This year we took Tavon Wilson... _________________
