NFL Draft:
Round 1 Pick #16 - Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M
Explanation: The bloodlines are there with him being from one of the premier football families and his father was a HOFer who played with and for Jeff Fisher. Jake is a powerful OT with a mean streak. He's not an elite athlete but he's a great technician with good athleticism. Has the ability to play LT but would be an elite RT in the Rams offense.

Round 1 Pick #22 - Tavon Austin WR/KR/PR West Virginia
Explanation: Flatlyner, I know I gave you problems for picking Austin. My issue wasn't with Austin, it was with our lack of a #1. With us signing Mike Wallace and letting Danny walk, Austin has a perfect role in our offense. Oh and BTW, think about our 3 WR sets...Wallace, Givens and Austin...that's 3 WRs with 4.3 speed. Austin, as a player, is a ridiculously dynamic athlete. The guys ability to cut, start and stop and accelerate will make your jaw drop. He reminds you of Barry Sanders...now, he's not Barry but he makes those same type of jaw dropping moves in college. However, when he's lined up in the slot, he's actually an extremely effective player. He has a good feeling for soft spots in the zone, can catch the ball over the middle and in traffic and has good hands although he'll drop some passes. Austin offers us lightning in a bottle on offense and special teams. If you haven't seen much of him, trust me, watch the two videos below:

Round 2 Pick #16 - Tony Jefferson S Oklahoma
Explanation: I think Tony is going to be quite happy he ends up on the same team as Tavon Austin. Tony is a very good athlete at safety with great instincts. He flies around the field making plays and will dish out some big hits. He falls this far because he's only 5'11" 210. However, Tony has been used as an in the box safety, slot CB and deep safety and has looked comfortable in all those roles. He needs to improve his angles, wrapping up when tackling and needs more experience in deep zones as his recognition skills and jump on the ball could improve but he should be a very good NFL safety.

Round 3 Pick #16 - Cornelius "Tank" Carradine DE FSU
Explanation: Tank Carradine is a long and very athletic pass rushing DE. Before he tore his ACL late in the season, he appeared to be on his way to being a top 20 pick. Blessed with long arms and 6'4" to 6'5" 260 size, Carradine has all the size to play DE in the 4-3. He also has great speed off the edge, the ability to turn the corner and strong hands to disengage from blocks. As a former JUCO with only 1 year of starting experience, he's still learning the position but when healthy, he'll have plenty of time to develop behind Quinn and Long with one of the best DL coaches in the business to hopefully give the Rams a dominant 3rd pass rusher.

Round 4 Pick #16 - Tyrann Mathieu CB/FS/PR LSU
Explanation: The more I watch the old games of Mathieu, the more I want him. He's just a great football player. I do worry about him and Janoris but you know what, they're pros. Can't shy away from an amazing pick because you're worried that he'll be a rotten apple that spoils the bunch. Mathieu can cover quite effectively in man to man, zone and is an excellent blitzer off the edge. He has great ball-skills, recognition skills, instincts and turnover forcing ability. He's just a natural play-maker on defense. He has experience at slot CB, boundary CB and FS. We'll find somewhere to play him on defense.

Round 5 Pick #16 - Davonte Holloman OLB South Carolina
Explanation: Holloman is a former SS that moved to the Spur role this year in SC's defense. At 6'2" 240, he has more than enough size to play OLB in the pros. Holloman possesses very good athleticism, good ball-skills and good cover skills for an OLB. He also has solid instincts, good play recognition skills and is better at fighting off blocks and using his hands than you'd expect a former safety to be. As he gets more experience, he should continue to improve in that respect. Holloman would offer the Rams a good developmental prospect at OLB that could potentially be a starter one day.

Round 6 Pick #16 - Corey Fuller WR Virginia Tech
Explanation: I've always seen the late rounds as a great place to look for players who have been overlooked for one reason or another. Fuller is a former track athlete who transferred to Virginia Tech to play football in 2010. After sitting out 2010 and spending 2011 as a backup, he got his chance this year and responded by putting up over 800 yards and very arguably outplaying Marcus Davis. Fuller possesses great speed and athleticism but has looked comfortable tracking the ball and is more developed as a route runner than expected. Fuller's brother, Vincent, played for Jeff Fisher for 6 years in Tennessee.

Round 7 Pick #16 - Mychal Rivera TE Tennessee
Explanation: Rivera is an undersized TE at 6'3" 250 but he is an excellent and very tenacious blocker. He really goes after his man in the run game with a mean streak and understands how to use his size to gain leverage and move defenders. As a pass catcher, he has solid athleticism and good hands. He's not going to burn defenders but if you don't account for him, he can do a lot of damage. Just a really solid player that can contribute as a #2 TE.
