It's cool if you lock this AZ as it may be a useless thread.
But shouldn't the Bears start sweating about Melton? Did we give him an extension yet? He has gone on record as saying he's the best DT in the league.
If we let him go into free agency, he'll certainly be picked up. |

He's under contract thru 2013, so they'll likely get something done this offseason based on previous history of how the team handles extensions. His payday is coming, he knows it, we know it, and I'm sure the FO knows it as well. _________________

It might be a good idea to try to lock him up this offseason. If he has a monster season next year, it's only going to drive his price tag higher. _________________

He's good, but does anyone else think he might struggle elsewhere? I mean, after all, Amobi Okoye looked good under Marinelli, too.
The Bears have always been good to players loyal to them. That's why they'll take care of Urlacher this off-season, even if he becomes involved with the organization off the field. They showed a couple shots of him on the sideline vs Arizona, and he was still involved with the defense, even though not suited up. He'd make a hell of a linebackers coach.
To be honest, if Melton were smart, he'd stay in Chicago for less. Sure, he could be like Mario Williams and run off for big money, but he seems like a more intelligent guy who would be interested in keeping the core of this DL together. |

Melton is a free agent this offseason.
Melton will resign in the next month or be franchise tagged. _________________

| So by way of the Amobi comment, can we say that Marinelli is a defensive guru then? |

Yeah he is an FA after this season...not next...
I'm not too concerned about the situation...Melton has stated he wants to be here and given how important the position is I don't see any way he leaves wither it be that he is signed to a long term contract or tagged. |

I think he's one of the best active DC's in the league right now, but I would not want him to be the head coach of this team. It would be a huge loss if our new head coach were to let him go and bring in his own DC. |

Forget Amobi...during the Arizona game John Lynch said he feels Marinelli is the best assistant coach in the game. |

You could clearly tell Lynch's bias towards this defensive scheme though. He was constantly making side notes and talking up Marinelli/Lovies style. If only we had a center fielder back there like the good Ol' John Lynch.. _________________

Well he's not built to play in a 3-4 so mark any teams who run that type of D of the list of potential suitors. He's also kind of limited to a one-gap type 4-3 defense. He's still not great in run support so keep that in mind. _________________

He could succeed in any scheme. He would be every bit as deadly in a 1-gap 3-4 as he is in our scheme. _________________
