Purple People at the Pro Bowl

There’s still a slim chance Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez will extend his career by another season. But he definitely won’t be extending it for now by one game.

Gonzalez has pulled out of the Pro Bowl due to an injury.

He’ll be replaced by Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph, a second-year player making his first trip to the NFL all-star game.

Rudolph, whose nine receiving touchdowns trailed only Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (1o) among all tight ends in 2012, will join defensive end Jared Allen, fullback Jerome Felton, linebacker Chad Greenway, running back Adrian Peterson and, kicker Blair Walsh in Honolulu.

Nice to see Kyle Rudolph making the pro bowl in his first full year as a starter. Pro bowl doesnt mean as much as it used to, but considering how many TEs there are in the NFL these days, it has to mean something.

Rudolph becomes the first Vikings tight end to make the Pro Bowl since Byron Chamberlain in 2001.

Walsh also told punter Chris Kluwe he’d paid for him to go, but Kluwe and his wife are going on their own dime.

Chris Kluwe: “Just taking in the sun, laughing at Blair while he has to practice, and hanging out with Cullen by the pool. He offered to take me as well, but I told him don’t worry about it. If I’m going to make it, I’m going to make it on my own. I did appreciate the offer, but I told him it’s OK: ‘You’re still on a rookie salary. You don’t have to cover the both of us.’ So he has a very vested interest in winning the game. While it may not be the greatest game played because guys obviously don’t want to get injured and there’s a lot of restrictions on what you can do already, guys are excited to be out here. It’s a pretty big deal.”
