|
The NFL obviously distributed preliminary numbers to the teams in December. The final numbers will be available in March 2013.
Salary Cap: 123.9 M$ - thus the RFA numbers will increase by 5% - the numbers I provided in the respective post should be good.
Here are the official Franchise Tag numbers:
Quarterback $14,896,000
Defensive end $11,175,000
Cornerback $10,854,000
Wide receiver $10,537,000
Offensive line $9,828,000
Linebacker $9,619,000
Defensive tackle $8,450,000
Running back $8,219,000
Safety $6,916,000
Tight end $6,066,000
Kicker/punter $2,977,000

So Albert will cost us 9.66 next year? Not too bad. _________________

Let's put all tags in this thread.

I am hoping we end up tagging Colquitt because we get Bowe and Albert locked up long term. _________________

This hasn't been brought up before, and I am not necessarily advocating for this but what do you guys think :
IF we can re-sign Bowe and Colquitt while putting the franchise tag on Albert, what are your thoughts on the potential of trading Albert for say, maybe a second round pick to a team like Chicago for example? Obviously there would need to be an opportunity for the other team to negotiate with Albert on a long term contract. _________________

Nic, it's astonishing how much alike we think at times. I was considering this same thing this morning. I only have a couple of fears,
1. As you said, the team would have to be able to negotiate a new contract.
2. We better be positive he's cleared to play, because before giving up a pick you know teams will want him checked out.
3. It's just hard to trade a franchised player, that is why I think it doesn't happen more often.
All that aside, I think it's a possibility if we tag him. _________________

Yeah, it is definitely something I have been wondering about - especially if we tie up a significant amount of money in Bowe this offseason. If we tagged and traded Albert for decent compensation (like a second round pick in 2013), then that could give us some more draft flexibility. The key will be if we think Stephenson is a legitimate starting candidate or if we really like one of the top tackles (Joeckel, Fisher, or Johnson). Getting back a second round pick could be very valuable, especially if Dorsey can work his magic in the draft evaluation phase. Also, if we truly aren't sold on Geno Smith as a long term franchise quarterback, maybe we could end up sliding down a couple of picks (Buffalo Bills maybe?) and either grabbing one of the tackles (Fisher is someone I really like) or a defensive lineman (Richardson or Lotulelei if he checks out medically). _________________

Damn, I was really hoping Starks was going to hit the market - IMO he would have been an excellent option for us at defensive end. I never thought the Dolphins would tag Long and I imagine they have been figuring on losing Long eventually (thus drafting Martin last year). Starks was talking about being willing to give the Dolphins a discount so I would think that both sides will work out a long-term deal before too long. _________________

Long being on the market could drop Albert's price tag. Both have health question marks, but Albert isn't really in the same category even if both are healthy. _________________
