Just because he's been fine for several years doesn't mean that he won't have his career cut short at his next doctor visit. It doesn't mean that he will, either. He could play 10-11 years or he could never play another snap again. And while you could say that's the case for most every player, his condition causes at least some additional risk.
Drafting him is going to be all about risk assessment. If he can play a long career, some team is going to get a helluva player. The question becomes how much additional risk does his medical history raise, and at what point in the draft does his potential outweigh the risk. Without knowing the specifics of how far along his condition is, it's hard to make that determination. That said, there seemingly is enough good players at rush-man positions that taking him #2 overall likely isn't the best value given what little we know. It might be; I just don't think that's overly likely. _________________

This off-season? Yeah. We had just drafted a QB in the first round and there wasn't anything to suggest that Peyton would be what he was before.
Not really an "I wouldn't touch him" scenario as much as an "I don't think it's realistic" situation. _________________

I said I would love to have Peyton Manning, but I did not see him coming to Jacksonville realistically.

Here's FF's Free Agent tracker, if anyone wants it.
http://www.footballsfuture.com/2013/fa/track.html
It hasn't been updated in a while, but it at least gives a good starting poinot for basically everyone who was originally a FA for this season. And it'll be one of the first places with a full update once Free Agency actually rolls around.
I'd like to see us target a "big name" defensive player at DE, WLB or CB, and a guy who could contribute on the o-line. Otherwise, I'd like to address the other "starter spots" with the draft.
Somebody like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie would be great for this defense IMO and shouldn't cost too much. But I'm not sure Philly is just going to let him leave. _________________

So someone like Cliff Avril/Carlos Dunlap? _________________

Depends on price. I don't view either of them as "big names."
Has Dunlap been injured every season he's been in the league? _________________

Except Manning has no lingering effects from his injury while Jones may be unfit to play at any moment (see Marcus McNeill). I'm not sure if you understand what both players went through medically. I see what you're trying to do, but their injuries are very different, along with the situation overall, that you can't compare them. _________________

i dont see the comparison as Peyton's neck wasnt a degenerative problem, it should have been given the size of his bucket-head but it wasnt _________________

Manning was also a FA with the neck thing.
I'd take Jarvis Jones as a FA in a heartbeat. But #2 overall is a very different set of circumstances. |

Cowboys fired Rob Ryan. He could be someone we look at if we're switching to a 3-4.
But more over, Cowboys fans think this means that they're switching to a 4-3 and letting Anthony Spencer walk. Someone fill me in on how he would fit in the Will in a 4-3. _________________

i thought he was strictly a 3-4 OLB, but i could be off base there _________________

Cowboys fan here. Actually was stalking the forum to find some info on your LB Daryl Smith. Maybe we can do a little FA switch
Spencer wouldn't fit as a LB in the 4-3. But he is a great 3-4 SOLB, and he doesn't get the credit he deserves in Cowboy land. What are your thoughts on Smith as a 4-3 SAM? _________________
