What is his play calling and coaching like? |
Kinda 'Old School' in a lot of ways. A real motivator and players coach type. No-nonsense approach to defense. Not much of a tactician or the 'chess master' type at all. Content to just line it up and let the talent shine through for the most part. So probably not all that dramatically different from the Bears D this year.
I'm kinda stumped by the Bears hires this year tbh, but i guess we'll see how it pans out. |
Thanks for the info…as a fan base we are real happy with the hires…Trestman’s offences have always been productive no matter where he has been…he will sort out Cutler…Kromer has been brought in to finally fix our Oline…and Tucker won’t mess with our D and we retained much of the coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball so we should continue to be good there…
Another question for you guys…did you ever try LB Daryl Smith at MLB instead of on the outside?...if so why didn’t it work? If not do you think he could play the MLB spot? |
He's good enough to play anywhere but, he is best suited for SLB. IIRC he did play MLB a few years back.
Congrats on the Mel hire. I think he will be good in Chicago. |
Thanks...don't take this the wrong way but most of us think with the increased talent of our D over yours he could be a very good hire combined with the position coaches we have retained…he is clearly highly regarded considering the jobs he has interviewed for in the past few years. |
Yeah, i would be surprised if Tucker didn't get a lot more out of the talent on that Bears defense. It definitely looks like his sort of group to work with. |

Mel is a great motivator and on a self-motivating defense it could be fun to watch _________________

We have discussed this before, but the majority seem to think his tackling ability/inability would make him a liability there...at least thats what i remember as the conversation _________________

Quick question, when a player is franchised can another team sign them?
I think it's something like you have to give up two first round picks. If that's the case and Flaco is franchised, I'd do it in a heart beat. Any other takers? _________________ 2nd place in Jaguars forum USJJC 2012

I think you get a chance to match the offer like a RFA, but I think that would be a mistake imo _________________

You can sign a franchise player if you're willing to fork over two first round picks or if the other team is willing to take less.
I don't think I'd give up two firsts for Flacco, nor do I think it'll be an option - the Ravens aren't letting him go anywhere. _________________

I agree, especially after they make the SB _________________

There are 2 different franchise tags that have essentially no difference except for the 2 first round picks thing you mentioned. The Ravens won't give Flacco that tag though.
I would give up 2 first round picks for him though. _________________

So is everyone basically assuming if we draft Star, that Pot Roast will be gone?
Obviously the determination has to be made before the draft, but yeah. _________________

There's two types. The exclusive rights Franchise tag and the non-exclusive. Exclusive rights, no team but the Ravens can negotiate with Flacco. The Ravens would be stupid not to tag him with the exclusive rights one. _________________

No.
Even if we take Star, there's definitely a place on this team for another potentially dominant defensive lineman.
We're not talking about a quarterback - there's no reason for a top pick to cause a team to start completely from scratch at the position.
Star / Knighton / Alualu / Mosley with some Mincey mixed in is a dominant front. Why downgrade it for the sake of a draft pick? _________________

I don't think it gets to that point. He probably signs a mega-deal before March.
I'd call it a hunch if it wasn't so obvious. _________________

The way I see it, Knighton seems to want out anyway. He's obviously at the point in his career where he has the freedom to do so, regardless of what we want.
I'd certainly offer him a fair deal, but i wouldn't count on him accepting it to stay here. When we're talking 'fair money', odds are there are other teams out there who would match that sort of offer easily...and it becomes a question of whether or not he wants to be here.
My impression, is that he's been through the ringer here in Jacksonville, and might very well just prefer a fresh start. Regardless of management and coaching having had a reset...my gut is that Knighton wants out.
If he stays though, AND we draft Star...is that really a bad thing? We'd have a scary interior line, and conditioning has never really been Knighton's strong-suit anyway. I don't see why we couldn't make it work, with quality players getting significant snaps depending on how they're playing. |
