Do you think he should be traded? I mean this receiving core is pretty weak and IMO he's no help. _________________ O-Line, O-Line! Come out, come out, where ever you are!

| I don't think he's doing anything someone else on this team couldn't do equally well. I suspect we see him cut or we see a similar situation to the Clutts/McManis trade. |

| He's untradeable and most of his contributions are negative. |

Yea, I like the guy. Just doesn't do a good job of playing receiver. _________________ O-Line, O-Line! Come out, come out, where ever you are!

Weems seems pretty miserable as a return man. It isn't as if any of the WRs, other than Marshall, are contributing much more than Hester in any case. |

Hester looks slow and scared.
He has always been a terrible WR that hurt the offense.
He is now a terrible returner who gives up yardage.
He should be cut. _________________

His contract should be restructured and he should focus solely on returns.
If you notice the dip he had as a return man coincided with him getting too many reps as a WR. He can't handle that sort of responsibility.
I think we should make him an exclusive return man again. I think he'll be pretty good as one too. _________________

At his current salary or restructured?
Aside from his lack of superhuman burst that he used to have, the NFL is moving towards reducing the number of kick returns which will further diminish his value per his salary.
I'd release him with the least amount of impact to our cap space and then see if he's willing or available to come back as a near vet minimum return specialist. |

I really don't care what his salary is right now...yeah, we paid him "WR" money and it isn't panning out, so just scrap him at WR, and make him concentrate solely on returns, both PR and KR and that's it. Maybe his mind is overloaded...we know he's not the sharpest fella in the world. _________________

^You make a good point about the diminishing role of KR in the NFL. I would definitely restructure his deal more in line with a exclusive kick returner. I think he realizes his value is not very high. _________________

Lets look at his numbers in the return game:
****************************************
Punt Returns:
8.8 yards per attempt (19th)
325 yards (7th)
37 attempts (4th T)
1 additional PR return went to Eric Weems, which would have placed Hester's attempts at 4th in the league, untied.
Kick Returns:
26.8 yards per attempt (7th)
562 yards (17th)
21 attempts (18th T)
13 additional KR attempts went to Eric Weems, which would have placed Hester's attempts at 9th in the league through Week 16
****************************************
Hester has never been consistently outstanding the kick return game, but has had an alright year in the punt return game, which is his strong suit. However, his punt return effectiveness seems less than it really is because:
A. We get mad when he runs backwards.
B. We get mad he doesn't score TDs.
C. We get mad when he drops passes, even though that's unrelated to the return game.
D. The offense is so bad, the field position he sets up is largely irrelevant.
Lets not forget, however, that we had this exact same discussion before the 2010 offseason and all of us were proven wrong. _________________

Exactly. He has been proven to be streaky over time, and while right now he's in a rut all it has taken in the past for him to get out of it is one big return. He seems to second guess himself when he loses confidence like he has now. While he shouldn't continue to be paid like a top WR I think the potential ROI with him as a full time KR/PR is still higher than just about anyone else. _________________

He also hasn't had the same opportunities as in years past. This year it seems like teams are sticking to their assignments very well, getting downfield quickly and doing an exceptional job of containing him. _________________
