| Bevell is reportedly one of the finalists for the Bears HC gig. What did you guys think of him when he was the Vikings OC? |

Over the weekend, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that the Bears soon will trim down their list of 13 known coaching candidates, conducting a second round of interviews that will involve not only G.M. Phil Emery but also team president Ted Phillips and members of ownership.
The first name of that list, per Mort, will be Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

he's not too respected in Viking circles, you'll see why soon enough as the comments pour in... _________________

Can I start!
You will be hard pressed to get a lot of positive opinions. Most viewed him as a puppet to Brad Childress, a "yes" man type. Childress's play calling was atrocious around 2006 and eventually Bevell took over that role in 2007 or 2008 (i forget which year it was). The Vikes never got much production out of the passing game from 2006 to 2008, though there are a number of areas to blame from QB to WR play, to coaching. Bottom line, Bevell and Childress's offenses were very bland but we truly dont know how much power Childress had over Bevell to make the offense his own.
The offense took off in 2009, but that was basically because of Brett Favre having a career best season.
So, I cant think of anything positive to say about Bevell but I really cant say anything negative either.
Seahawk fans' opinions may be a little more valid since Childress was largely a control freak as HC. |

He was mediocre at best and i would love to see the bears make the mistake of hiring him _________________

I don't think we have any idea what he did here vs what Childress did here. Given the outcomes produced, I was not impressed. But, we just don't know what Bevell did vs Childress. _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

nor do we know whether Bevell has realistically improved, or how high his ceiling is. but i'm doubtful of both.
it appears the Bears are casting a broad net in their HC search, which some of have said is because they are plying the applicants for info as to how they would improve the team or improve Cutler. i just don't regard Bevell as a tip top candidate to take that team to the next level.
it cold even drop down a level with him at the helm. _________________

| Bevell gets a lot of crap thrown at him but he just took the Seahawks deep in the playoffs with a ROOKIE QB. Carroll isn't an offensive guru... |

Interesting thought to consider.
Bevell as HC, Childress as OC of the Bears. |

Neither was Childress.
Perhaps Wilson is just a darn good QB.
I would venture to guess that the Seahawk fans have a better understanding of Bevell's capabilites as a HC than Viking fans do since I think what he showed in MN was very limited.

The defense might have something to do with that..... _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

I dont think the personalty differences of Tice and Childress could function on the same offensive coaching staff together. |

who else is on the Bears' short list? i mean, i can't really believe that Bevell is at the top of it.
he might be getting interviewed first, but that doesn't mean he's their top choice. _________________

Neither was Childress. |
Wait what? Childress was an offensive coordinator and coach. He came from the offensive branch of things. He was also credited for helping develop McNabb (though I give that to Reid). Andy Reid is considered to more on offense.
Pete Caroll is a more defensive coordinator. He had one year of offensive coordination but his expertise came from being a defensive coordinator.

He is a damn good QB but that doesn't take away from the fact that Bevell was relied on heavily to run that offense. |
