Its always fun to wonder what if...
I'm not sure how many people remember this but at the draft Andy did something he doesn't normally do, he showed his hand. During his interview regarding the pick he made mention that he wanted Foles or Wilson.
| Quote: | | "And with these quarterbacks very few of them come from the west coast offense. You saw the kid that went before him (Wisconsin QB Russell) Wilson. He had played in the west coast offense at North Carolina State. There are very few of those that have that opportunity to do that. Most of the teams now are either in the spread option or the spread offense where they go four wide. This kid had a little bit of each. They did use a little bit of tight end at times. He was under center at times, but most of the time it was four wides. They weren’t running the option with him, but they were throwing the football." |
| Quote: | | On whether the team had any interest in Wilson: "Well, I did. I liked Wilson, yeah, I sure did. He’s a heck of a player too. We had our eye on those two players and I wish that kid all the best. He’s got a great personality. Not a lot of guys have his size, but he gives you the confidence he’s going to be able to do it." |

Now I completely expect this thread to turn into bashing Andy's past drafts but its an interesting point to ponder where the Eagles would have been if Russell Wilson stepped into the starting role instead of Nick Foles. _________________

While I think Wilson has played at a higher level than Foles, Wilson also has great circumstances... Not sure how well Wilson would play with this offensive line, with a lack of skill players for a prolonged period, AND most importantly, with this playcalling.
Certainly, Wilson is further along and has looked better to this point, but when you're in an offense thats placing such an emphasis on the run and are able to utilize that to set up the pass - it makes a quarterback's life so much easier than when he's throwing 40-50 times a game compared to 20 runs... |

Wilson would not have had nearly the same success here as he has had in Seattle.
Our defense sucks, our o-line sucks, our play-calling sucks.....We have decent WRs and a very good run game..that's it.
Wilson is in the perfect position to succeed.
That's not to say he still wouldn't be fairing well..I don't think he'd be breaking records like he is in Seattle. _________________

Wilson has some good receivers, good coaches, an amazing defense and Marshawn Lynch.
Only Sanchez could fail in that situation. _________________

Which we've used only sparingly. |

Exactly.
I mean don't get me wrong it'd be awesome if we had drafted Wilson looking back, but to think he'd have the same success here is ridiculous. _________________

I was with %100 certainty we were gonna take Wilson if he feel to us, and honestly i wasn't to happy about it. I wanted Kirk Cousins our Nicky Benjamins. _________________

He'd have three concussions because of our O-line? _________________ Officially endorsed by Jon Dorenbos

Doubtful our season would end any differently, but Wilson has proven that he is a franchise QB for the Seahawks and is going to be their future. I'd much rather have him then the question that is Foles. Not to say that I don't believe in Foles, as he's shown promise, but Wilson has already proven he is very good. _________________

Right place at the right time - a strong defense, a commitment to the running game makes a whole load of difference for a rookie QB _________________

I'm actually glad he's not a Eagle. He wouldn't have had the same success here "this year" and all we would of heard was how he is to short to play QB. I put Wilson in the same boat as Big Ben his rookie year. Relies heavily on the great run game, very good defense and takes advantage when needed in the passing game as a manager. Take any of those area's "especially" the running game away which would be a given here with Moron at OC and he doesn't have nearly the amount of success. Wilson is surrounded by Veterans and health at almost every position which breeds success. Something he wouldn't of had this season in Philly unless just by his pure presence he was able to magically save players from injury. He lucked out. Let's just prey to God Nick can make a considerable jump forward next season or this Franchise is in for a long next 5-6 yrs. _________________

No. Mike Vick would make that offence look horrible even though that OL is actually pretty decent. _________________

5-6 years? Franchise QBs proliferate the drafts nowadays. Even if you don't draft one in a year you can get him the next year. The problem is when you don't identify that you don't currently have a true franchise QB and you skip trying to improve the position. The Jets and the Vikings are now in that position. It will be a long 5-6 years if the next Eagles staff can't develop QBs or make mistakes filling the position. Over the next 5-6 years there will probably be 7 or more franchise type QBs entering the NFL. |
