We need to decide on an offensive strategy and stick with it. Are we run-first? Are we pass-first? Are we a west-coast style team? No one knows. Right now we like to run a lot of slam plays up the middle and jump-balls to Marshall. That's not an offense, that's your drunk buddy playing NCAA '13 late friday night. Once we have it down what we're trying to do, then we can get bodies in here that are designed to fit that scheme. _________________

Agreed.
We have a ZBS RB so that might be our best running game.
We have West Coast WRs, big physical dudes that are awesome after the catch, so that should be our passing game. _________________

Short west coast passing routes mixed in with running the ball a ton. Draft who you can on the O line. Patience, overpaying for free agent O-Linemen will just open up a new hole down the way. Mix in some scheme with some new talent and it will quickly improve I think. Thats just my two cents. _________________

THIS!!! plus Cutler played the best ball of his career under a WCO offense. _________________

Did you all see Vollmer on Sunday Night??? He wasnt good.....and honestly no OL will really come in and save this line.
The problem is the offense itself. We just plain need a change in philosophy. We need an offensive head coach who comes in and really gets a model to work out of. |
You watched him play ONE game, against the most productive pass rusher in the NFL, who has a shot at the NFL record...
Sebastian Vollmer would be a top 3 Olineman in our entire Division, yet coming at sort of a discount due to the fact he's been playing RT. I LOVE Windy's post, I see Vollmer getting a little more than say Donald Penn, at ~6 million a year. The value in that is SO much better than Long, clady, Albert at 10+ million. Jermon bushrod has played very poorly this season, I do not consider him in the same tier as Vollmer AT ALL. I think Emery blows this up, 4 new Olineman, 2 starting caliber FA's (Vollmer @ 6 million, Levitre @ 5 million). Trade from pick #20 out of the 1st, select the best available Olineman with one of the 2nds (Ideally Lane Johnson), than our future MLB with the other 2nd (Ideally Arthur Brown). Than we still have a 3rd via trade(Ideally Gavin Escobar) and our 4th, 5th, and 6th to draft developmental DB's and DT's.
Offensive line:
LT- Sebastian Vollmer
LG- Andy Levitre
C- Roberto Garza
RG- Lance Louis...Gabe Carimi
RT- Lane Johnson...J' Webb
AND we'd have our MLB of the future. _________________

| If we sign Vollmer I'd keep him at RT. |

That is the beauty of Vollmer we can put him at the spot that we are weakest.
If Webb is better or we draft a LT and put Vollmer at RT.
If we draft a RT or draft an OG then Vollmer plays LT. _________________

For me I want us to go to the ZBS wither we have a new HC or not…so…
1. I do whatever it takes to find a bonafide consistent starter at LT…ideally this would be Branden Albert but more likely Jermon Bushrod who I feel would also be a quality pick up…
2. I resign Lance Louis to a 1 year contract to find out how strong his knee is and if he can adapt to a ZBS (which I reckon he could)…
3. I trade out of the 1st round to pick up a high 2nd & 3rd round pick then draft a guy like Brian Winters out of Kent State to move inside from LT to LG where his athleticism and physicality would be a perfect fit for this scheme…
4. I move J’Marcus Webb over to RT to compete with Carimi & Scott in camp and keep the best two on the roster as a starting RT and backup swing man...
LT…Branden Albert/Jermon Bushrod
LG…Brian Winters
C…Roberto Garza…Edwin Williams
RG…Lance Louis…Chris Spencer
RT…J’Marcus Webb…Gabe Carimi
I would love to do something at the C position but there is a real lack of talent at the position this year…maybe a late round pick up of Dalton Freeman, Matt Stankiewitch or Sam Schwartzstein as development prospect would be a good call…I think just adding Albert/Bushrod & Winters would give as a strength on the Oline which would all any coordinator to help out the right hand side of the line schematically. |
I think this is a pretty good blue print of what we need to do. Im all for the ZBS. _________________

Nope, he's unrestricted. | You can only place the franchise tag on URFAs right? RFAs can get all the tags? |

He is unrestricted and they have heavy resources invested all over the offense. _________________
