I'm sold. McCourty gets it, and I've gotta say he has been one of our defensive MVPs this year. The defense is hitting it's stride and McCourty is the wizard at the back end of the trail that holds that action and words, "You shall not pass!"
Refer to Tzi's sig for stats, but he's made plays and closed games for us. This coming from multiple positions on the defense. I still think he's a natural CB, but he can make strides as well at FS with his quickness, reads and range. _________________

Moving him to safety was definitely the best coaching decision BB made this year. _________________

Tzi, where do you see him hitting his ceiling at? CB or S? _________________

Tzi, where do you see him hitting his ceiling at? CB or S? | A good CB who can tackle well [as McCourty usually does] will usually be a better safety.
And given the predominance of spread formations and the emergence of super-athletic TEs, good coverage safeties are far more valuable in today's NFL than even the best CBs. _________________

| He was playing well at CB (despite a couple of high profile gaffes) before he got switched to S. |

He was way better at CB than given credit for. But we've desperately needed a rangey FS and he's been playing really well back there. But I don't want people to start assuming us saying it's a good choice is because he was horrible at safety and way better at safety. We've just been worse at safety without him than CB (Dennard and Talib have been amazing pickups/steals) _________________

A lot of people let a handful of snaps affect their judgment of a player instead of looking at the total body of work. This is especially true for DB's and pass rushers. |

| The whole issue is whether or not he stays there. It's easier to find a stud corner than a stud safety in the draft, and I'd be all for the team keeping him at safety permanently, and drafting another big corner early (especially if Talib leaves), since McCourty is so much better with the play in front of him than when he's in trail position. The range he showed on that pick on Monday night was tremendous, that's a hard thing to find in a safety. |

Called this before the season and was totally ripped for it. He's actually much better suited to free safety, and with the dearth of quality players at that position in the league, the value gap between a very good CB and a stud FS is very slim. Hopefully we resign Talib and hopefully find a safety to complement DMC better than Gregory or Chung moving forward. _________________

The onus is on Dennard to continue playing well. We've had a rather inauspicious history with good-looking rookie CBs here recently. _________________

No, he's better suited for corner. He's not that big a guy and can't cover bigger guys coming out of the backfield or split ends. But he plays both as well as you can expect and our talent at safety is significantly worse. _________________

That's the point. He's better off covering wideouts and slot receivers. _________________
