When it came out that it was a triceps injury and not necessarily bursitis it made a little bit more sense to me on why he didn't play.
With bursitis he could get the bursa sack drained and still have good range of motion. It would have been painful, but he could have likely played.
With a bruise like that I would suspect that there was some tearing of his triceps muscle which would prevent full range of motion as well as his ability to put a lot of "umph" on the ball. _________________

which is just how he described it - lack of strength and a compromised range of motion.
are the straight line streaks of the bruising from the muscle tears you presume happened? i've never seen a bruise with that shape, unless a guy was screeded along the highway or something. _________________

it's a real shame he didn't play, but now I see why. I wasn't expecting a SB this year, but beating GB twice in a row would have been nice lol. At least we're drafting higher than winning _________________

The only time I've seen vertical bruising is with scratches that break surface blood vessels.
So I'm not entirely sure... _________________

We probably did have the same chance. We can't tell though since Ponder didn't play. Didn't work out so well last time he was here there is no telling how he would of played _________________ All in for the underdog vikings making a push this season. |

Same result probably but i don't think same chance... Just the pure fact that Webb hasn't thrown a pass all year makes Ponder's chances even slightly better. _________________ XBL/PSN: Chainedsniper |

right, but that's a different statement from you saying he didn't do "anything right."

Even if, my point stands!
Hopefully Ponder can heal up quickly and have no problems this offseason. _________________

It wasn't just a bruise. The triceps muscle had shut down to the point Ponder couldn't even lob a soccer ball during a session with the Vikings' athletic trainers the day after the injury. The elbow area was so swollen there was a belief from people who saw the arm Ponder had a recurrence of the bursitis that plagued him during his senior year at Florida State. In reality, there was no fluid to drain. Ponder simply had no strength in the triceps and knew after an abbreviated pregame workout he still couldn't throw the football.
He is gradually regaining flexibility now, to the point he now can raise a football to his chest -- which is an improvement over where he was two days ago. The only work he got in team portions of practice last week were a series of handoffs, interspersed with the lightest of throwing sessions on the sideline.
There is no question within the organization Ponder did everything he could to play on Saturday, no matter how it looked from the outside.

I'm wondering if he tore it and there is too much swelling to get a good image. _________________

As I was saying earlier, Ponder's durability has to be a concern for the Vikings right now.
At FSU he suffered numerous injuries and missed bowl games in his final two seasons.
He missed parts of three games in 2011 to close out the season.
And now he's missed a playoff game.
That was the thing with Tarvaris too: he was hurt every single year in Minnesota and again last year in Seattle. _________________
