Another fun comparison:
| Quote: | Ponder in '12: 300/483, 2,935 yds, 18 TD, 12 INT, 81.2 rating, 32 sks.
Favre in '92: 302/471, 3,227 yds, 18 TD, 13 INT, 85.3 rating, 34 sks. |

Klomp ... don't you know we're not allowed to compare Ponder's 2nd season to Farve, Airmen or Eli's?
It's just not acceptable ... Lmao.
However, I like it! More importantly, the Viking team is evolving extremely well ... in the same mold of the '80s bears, 49ers and the '90s Cowboys and Packers. True, this team can/will make some changes this off-season, so let's see if those are improvements as we witnessed this year.
Ponder will undoubtedly be a big part of the team-building process. So, for the boys wishing for a flashy punk QB, it's not going to happen. Ponder might get injured, he might wash-out, or he might just be a middle-of-the-pack stats guy that leads the team to perennial playoffs and possible SB wins(s). |

PM ... in the previous 100 page thread, posts similar to Klomp's were met with heated retort by a few passionate anti-Ponder posters. It's plain ridiculous not to compare Ponder's young career to other QBs'.
No one can ultimately judge Ponder's career until he retires. So, we've had a lot of fun battering pros and cons of what his career will look like ... so, my statement was just a jab at those feeling a twinge of hammering on Klomp.... lol. |

Brett Favre 1992
Completions: Tied for 2nd in NFL
Attempts: 5th in NFL
Passing Yards: 9th in NFL
TDs: 8th in NFL
Passer Rating: 6th in NFL
Sacks: 5th in NFL
Passing Yards per Game: 7th in NFL
Christian Ponder 2012
Completions: 16th in NFL
Attempts: 21st in NFL
Passing Yards: 25th in NFL
TDs: 23rd in NFL
Passer Rating: 23rd in NFL
Sacks: 13th in NFL
Passing Yards per Game: 34th in NFL
Yep, still pretty ridiculous to compare numbers between QBs dating back two decades. Unless of course you don't think the game has evolved since then. The only thing that it suggests is that the stand alone numbers are similar. But when you factor in the rest of the league, you see that Brett Favre was a top 10 QB in every category listed and Christian Ponder, well, he's a long, LONG ways off from reaching that echelon. _________________

Wow. This was a tremendous response. Great research. Love reading replies like this.

| Quote: | Christian Ponder
QBR: 53.8
Passer rating: 81.2
Comment: For a good chunk of this season, Ponder was one of the NFL's worst quarterbacks. He had nine turnovers in a five-game span, finished three games with fewer than 100 yards and had the lowest average pass length for most of the year. All of this came against defenses aligned to stop tailback Adrian Peterson's run toward history. But after a disastrous Week 13 performance against the Packers, Ponder quietly turned himself around and had the NFL's second-best QBR (86.8) over the final four games of the season, trailing only Peyton Manning. Over the second half of the season, Ponder's QBR on third down -- measuring not only passes but also his scrambles -- was the league's second best. He finished the season with the NFL's third-lowest average of yards per attempt (6.08), but at least part of the blame for his lack of explosiveness should be attributed to a substandard group of receivers. If nothing else, Ponder minimized any offseason discussion about his status as the Vikings' unquestioned starter in 2013. |
Christian Ranks third in the NFC North according to total QBR; ahead of Jay Cutler

| Quote: | The latest glowing endorsement for Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder came Wednesday afternoon via defensive end Jared Allen. The Pro Bowl regular openly praised Ponder’s energy and self-belief during the team’s four-game winning streak to close the regular season. Most of all, Allen said, he’s seen Ponder grow more assertive, leading animated pre-game team huddles to energize the Vikings.
Said Allen: “Hearing your quarterback’s voice and knowing that he’s excited, when he’s pumped up, it gives you the confidence that ‘OK, the head of our offense, he’s ready to go.’” |

Ponders stats the last four games.
60/99, 61% Comp Pct, 570 Yds, 4 TD, INT, 73.8 QBR [AVG]
While the stats certainly aren't eye-popping. They don't lie. He's making crucial throws and has done a great job of limiting mistakes and being effective within the design of the offense. If he keeps this play up the Vikings I believe can make a run this post-season. If bad Ponder returns we'll be sent home quick. _________________
