So they have an extra roster spot to play with....
Maybe an extra DB? Or a different TE? |

Demps was not eligible for the IR-return designation at the time he was placed on injured reserve.
As for Stallworth, its a shame, but that was probably the best we were going to get out of him anyway. He's done basically nothing since he returned to the NFL and there's no reason to believe yesterday was the rule rather than the exception. _________________

Sign Todd Heap and cut Shiancoe? _________________

Yep. He supposedly was a malcontent or not trying hard enough in Arizona. He can actually block which would be a useful thing to have - as opposed to having a move TE on the roster who isn't a threat in the pass game. _________________

Shiancoe was a waste of spot. We should have put Demps on injury reserve designated for return instead. The interception yesterday was his fault too.
Sucks to see Stallworth on IR. He showed some ability to stretch the field for our offense. _________________

I'm surprised people don't remember this. Also, Hoomanawanui (who is party responsible for Shiancoe being totally expendable) wasn't around and there were concerns about Fells' health/conditioning.
I'm not saying it was the greatest decision in the world, but they wanted "Hernandez insurance" insofar as a TE with receiving ability. IMO that's pretty justifiable.
Starting the season, that type of player is more valuable to have in your back pocket than a kick returner who would be buried behind 4 guys on the RB depth chart. There are barely enough snaps for Vereen, Woodhead and Bolden to make room for Demps and a couple of kick returns isn't a good enough justification to keep him on the final 53 (which they would have had to do to use the IR designated to return). |

Yes. I think anyone that's contributed this yr will be given one unless they did something, but the only one I could think of they wouldn't give on to is Winslow. _________________

It feels like we've really cycled through TEs this year. _________________

| Do we think we keep Jake Ballard into next year and see him as the #3 or #4 TE? I nearly forgot about him until I looked through the IR list the other day. He's better in the passing game than Fells or Hooma. |

Of course. |
Since he is on the IR, I believe that he will go to New Orleans, should the Patriots make the Superbowl. As will guys like Jeff Demps, Spencer Larsen, Kyle Hix, Will Allen, ect... |
