The Patriots placed veteran receiver Donte' Stallworth on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday, one day after he caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Brady in the team's 42-14 win over the Texans.
In addition, the team announced the release of veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe.
Stallworth injured his ankle on Monday night. He played 20 snaps against the Texans, and his final play was the long touchdown catch in the third quarter.
As for Shiancoe, the signing never produced the desired results. The Patriots inked him to a one-year, $1.2 million contract in the offseason, and Shiancoe spent the first part of the season on injured reserve, with a designation to return.
The 32-year-old Shiancoe played in four games with the Patriots this season (59 total snaps) and didn't have a reception.

Stallworth did indeed suffer his high ankle sprain on that touchdown catch. Tough break, after he waited for that call most of the fall. |

Per a source, Deion Branch will sign with the Patriots, following Stallworth going to IR |

| I know we have a ton of RBs, but too bad we didn't use the IR-return tag on Demps. |

| Got to love Bill's stable of receivers that no one else wants so they don't take up room on the 53 |

agree with this totally. Also gotta wonder why Brace is taking up a roster spot. |

One of the biggest things I have noticed about the rookies we bring in is this: they do not play frequently early in games when passing is a factor. The health of Brady is paramount so it's also paramount that a running back be a capable protector. I think that he was not designated to return more so for this reason than any other. I mean Brady's only lost season was in part because Faulk was not the one protecting Brady due to his indiscretions costing him a game and a lesser player trying to pass block. _________________

Can't just have one backup DT. Wilfork/Deaderick/Love isn't enough to get through a season. Francis is worthless, especially in the run game so Brace was a necessity.
Might be able to risk cutting him now and keeping him on speed dial, but why bother when you have guys like James Develin on the roster for seemingly no reason? |

What's the deal with Myron Pryor? I haven't heard a thing about his progress other than he practiced once he was able to come off PUP. Is the other roster spot going to him maybe? _________________ 2012 Adopt-A-Patriot: Wes Welker

He's out for his career probably. 1 game played in 2 seasons and unable to get healthy with a full year away from football? Can't say I like his chances of ever contributing. |

| I'd be scared to sign with the Patriots to be their third receiver at this point. Seems like it's only a matter of time before you get hurt in that role. |
