Maybe I should just add this to the previous but man--48 yards, 49 yards and O T Pressure and he nails all three--WOW!
AND the field was wet, heavy, nasty, slippery--It's totally remarkable that he made all those kicks ,,and all his kicks to date .. Really a BIG part of our recent success. |

Very big field goals. Definitely.
BUT, let's not gloss over his horrendous kickoffs. He has to be the worst kickoff specialist in the NFL. Eventually we're going to see teams bring those short kicks back for TDs.
There should be a competition in the off-season, and I am very interested to see whether he can extend those kick-offs. _________________

That's true but he never kicked off in college -- HA, maybe because he was awful.. He's so good at F G's .. Maybe we bring in a kickoff specialist--Dallas did it awhile back. |

I'd trade a Suisham type kick off kicker
For a clutch kicker every day of the week. He's awesome!
What do you want to do footy29, cut Banks and bring back Cundiff to be the kick off specialist? _________________

Is it common for punters to also be able to do kickoffs? Rocca's probably on his last legs so maybe we could find a guy that could punt and do kick-offs.
At the end of the day though, I'd much rather short kick-offs and the ability to make clutch field goals then the other way around. _________________

Jeezy has the right idea. If they want to keep Forbath, they have to be looking at a college punter who has kickoff experience, or at the very least the ability.
And yes, I wouldn't mind cutting Banks outright. I wouldn't sign a second kicker, but surely they could use the spot for someone who has a chance to develop into someone, or at the very least has STs value. _________________

Hopefully the guys we have now on the team can fill that position, I think they can.
I'm still for having Helu (when he returns next year) be the kick off return man and Crawford did look good on two punt returns- except he couldn't outrun the punter. Lmfao Crawford didn't make any mistakes though and that's great! _________________

That's the most ridiculous argument against a FG Kicker that I've ever heard. I don't know how the masses in this forum feel about Kai Forbath, but I think the Redskins once again found a diamond in the rough. This kid has good range and is very accurate. I don't care if they have to get Rex Grossman to kickoff, I want Forbath as our FG Kicker and he should go to camp next year knowing he's number #1 and with a new contract. |

Flat out stud as a PK.
Kickoffs, he's a weak granny.
I'll take the former and get a punter to do kickoffs. We haven't had a Kicker come in and be this accurate in awhile. You keep that kicker when he lands in your lap!! _________________

Agree with footy and everyone else who is saying keep Forbath and try to get a P who can kickoff.
We need to do whatever we have to in order to keep Forbath even if it means getting a specialist till we find that P/PK _________________

First off, a young inexperienced kicker will not be given job assurances, ie. there will be competition. Second, someone has to kickoff as it is an important aspect of the position. While it may not prevent Forbath from keeping the PK position, because the FO probably moves on from Rocca this off-season, it is a cause for concern.
Forbath's kickoff have a low trajectory AND are about 10 yards shorter than the average, which means that the coverage team will have a tough time keeping opponents from getting to the 30 yard line with relative ease. It puts more pressure on the defense when the offense has good field position.
There are some talented legs coming up through the college system, but it's going to mean that the options to replace Rocca are limited because they will need someone who can do the kickoffs. It's a hassle - not the end of the world, but certainly not ideal.
If Forbath wants longevity, the FO will either need to luck into a truly great P who doubles as a KO specialist, or he will have to significantly improve his kickoffs. Of course, it could mean that he's cheap in 2-3 years when they look at giving him a veteran level contract for a kicker, so there is a plus side.
Zuerlein, Walsh and Hunter have all looked great as rookies, so it wouldn't be shocking if they look at the draft crop and go with a kicker instead of a punter.
Blknite - thanks for the suggestion. _________________

You know -- the positive point from not getting touchbacks is ,,,yes, you might get burned with a long return but you also have a chance for a turnover .. See Niles Paul fumble last week--thankfully ruled recovered

Yep! I'm curious about the average field position on returns this year and the number of turnovers. Maybe I'll look it up .. or not. |
