|
|
|
We've discussed the future of Frazier and the future of this team, we've speculated coaching changes and player movement. However, what we haven't discussed is who these candidates are and why they are qualified. Furthermore, the discussion should be open to all positions, not just head coaching position. Defensive line coach, offensive line coach (I like Davidson!), linebacker coach (Singletary what are you doing!?). But I'll get the ball rolling on three coaches that we could look at for the offensive coordinator position;
Andy Reid - I know weird. He might get a head coaching gig or he might want to take a year or two off to reinvigorate himself after being in Philly for so long. (Kind of like what Fischer did). Reid has developed a few good QBs in the past and Philly was a Juggernaut for a while. I think he could make an interesting offensive coordinator but it's unlikely.
Norv Turner - I don't see him coming to Minnesota personally but he could be a candidate most definitely. I see him heading to Carolina (changes are going to made there). But he's developed some great QBs and has some very prolific offenses.
Bill Callahan - If Dallas doesn't make the playoffs, something tells me big changes are coming. Callahan runs the offense in Dallas and could be an interesting hire for the team. He was a failure in college but did develop some talent (Zac Taylor, Eric Crouch). So, there is that. |

I think it would be and should be a pro style college coach from a fairly big and prestigious program. _________________

I'm really hoping for Norv Turner as the OC.
Another guy I would love to add his Jeff Tedford as our QB coach. He was recently fired as the HC of the Cal football team. He knows how to make QBs productive for him. His track record with Quarterbacks is remarkable:
Trent Dilfer-6th Overall Pick
David Carr-1st Overall Pick
Akili Smith-3rd Overall Pick
Joey Harrington-3rd Overall Pick
Kyle Boller-19th Overall Pick
Aaron Rodgers-24th Overall Pick
Granted most of those guys didn't reach their potential, they were efficient under his watch. Maybe he can help Ponder's progression. _________________

Bill Callahan?
His offenses consistently underperformed and were horrible to watch. He failed to utilize a running game, plus hasn't been very successful in Oakland, Dallas or New York.
And just for the record Crouch graduated in 2001, running an option style offense. Callahan was hired in 2003 and tried to bring in a west coast offense. Wasn't very successful at it. _________________

It all starts with a new head coach, Frazier is just not a good coach, its time to move on. I want an up and comer, not a retread.
I like,
1. Kyle Shanahan
2. Greg Roman
3. Gus Bradley
4. Bill Kollar
5. Pete Carmichael
I'll give reasons later, when I'm not on my phone. _________________

I am a little surprised that more people are not behind Andy Reid. I guess everyone is sick of former Eagles but his record over the last 12 years is hard to ignore. Hard to get more proven than what he has been. _________________

He does not run the ball. It would be an awful fit with this roster. _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

They were not bad when they had Westbrook. Though he did do a lot of stuff to get the ball to him out in space. Something a lot of us wish we did much more of with Peterson. _________________

What are positives and negatives of some of the top college coaches right now? Why would they or wouldn't they be good for Vikings football? I don't know what some of these guys run on offense/defense and if it would fit in with our team, so I am looking to see what some of you have to say.. Just throwing some good college coaching names out there who are on the younger side still.
Mark Richt - Georgia
Will Muschamp - Florida
Brian Kelly - ND
Kevin Sumlin - TAMA
Chris Petersen - Boise State
Chip Kelly - Oregon
Mike Gundy - Oklahoma State
Dabo Swinney - Clemson
David Shaw - Stanford
Jimbo Fisher - Florida State
Art Briles - Baylor
Pat Fitzgerald - Northwestern
Paul Rhoads - Iowa State
Bill O'Brien - Penn State _________________

Gary Patterson would be my first choice of the college coaches but I don't see any reason why he would leave TCU _________________

I would be intrigued by chip kelly, brian shaw, and brian kelly.
Shaw and Brian Kelly because they seem to know how to use the talent they have available to them. Chip due to his creativeness, his offense is the future of the NFL.... _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

All I know is that it'd be foolish, in my opinion, to go with another guy who's never been a head coach at any sort of meaningful level... _________________

The only college coach I'd go with is David Shaw. _________________

I think Kyle Shanahan would make as a great Head Coach. I think McCoy might have a shot too.
Norv Turner should only be a Offensive Coordinator.
Assuming the worst, any one of those guys would be great.
I like our Defensive Coordinator. He can only do so much with the talent back there, so I'll give him a pass.
Our ST coach's job should be just fine.
We'll probably need a new QB coach and WR coach, along with Linebackers coach, but Idk who would fill those spots. _________________
