And, since this is now such a pass-oriented League (which many of you delight in pointing out) who'd have the personel to stop AD? |
yeah! and instead of trying so hard to find quality wide receivers, we could just forget about it and not field any. get more blockers at the line. just run on every play.
what is this, 1950...? |

^ it obviously wasn't a long term approach for them.

What I am NOT saying is that we would run this formation as our base set; however, it would give us some options. If we somehow acquired Tebow, then I would want another "regular" QB as well (Moore, Smith, Flynn et al). It could give us an edge to have such uniquely dangerous weapons, no? We could run packages that virtually no other teams could run, and thus defenses would not have experience against these types of sets. We would still upgrade our WR corps, that is a given. Just some thoughts... _________________ "No one can disguise mediocrity better than Bill Belichick." |

Quite frankly none of the veterans out there really float my boat at this point. The team needs to go with a guy who has a chance to be a long-term solution. Whether that's Joe Webb or someone we draft remains to be seen.
Alex Smith may lead the NFL in passer rating this year when all is said and done but to me that kind of underscores the problem with the NFL passer rating formula more than it legitimizes Alex Smith.
Michael Vick has been banged around a lot over the last couple of years, doesn't run as well as he used to, and was never a great pocket passer.
Matt Moore has posted OK numbers as a stopgap solution in Carolina and Miami, but I wonder about his upside after teams drafted Jimmy Clausen, Cam Newton and Ryan Tannehill to replace him in consecutive years.
Tim Tebow? Please. We don't need the media circus that surrounds this guy.

Jesus christ. 6 votes for Tebow? What is wrong with you people! Tebow may just win gamez, but he is a white Joe Webb!
the only veteran QB I would appreciate the vikings throwing $$$ at would be Alex Smith..who has proved that he is worth the money the vikings would probably overpay him. _________________

When did Smith ever prove anything? He's basically had one good year in his career, and has since been passed up for a raw 2nd round, 2nd year player.
Put Ponder on that 49ers team with Harbrough as coach and I doubt he does any worse than Smith did. |

I had a thought today.
Mark Sanchez might make some sense here as competition under one condition.
If Sanchez is willing to re-negotiate his deal and take a paycut The Vikings have some similarity to the Jets teams he went to the AFC Championship games with. We have Adrian Peterson to take the load off, Percy Harvin and Kyle Rudolph as security blankets. The defense is substantially better this year and should be even better next year.
Go ahead call for strafe jackets and admit me. _________________

Sorry for going off-topic would love to add Turner as OC.
Of the options it should be Mallet or Alex Smith.
Option 1 Alex Smith - If still believe in Ponder Smith is my choice. He's a good locker room guy, veteran and a solid QB. He's still young enough that if ponder fails he can become a good starter while searching for a new young qb.
Option 2 Ryan Mallet - If have no faith faith in Ponder and want a QB with high risk high reward. Mostly likely he won't cost a 1st and his salary will be lower than drafting a qb. I wanted the Vikings to draft him so I always been high on him. _________________

If we bring in Flynn, then all we'd have to do is get the Packers' receivers and we'd actually have a passing offense. |
