I know it's still WAY early, but it's about time to start researching this year's draft class. I don't watch a ton of CFB, so I spend the 3-4 months before the draft scouring websites for "analysis" and finding whatever video I can find, but I like the "expert" input with a Steelers slant...so...

Regardless of round, who do you all like in these positions--NT, LB, S (and yes, I get some of these won't be available, but DD wasn't supposed to be either)...and who's an absolute--NO WAY? Thoughts?

S:
Eric Reid
TJ McDonald
Kenny Vacarro
Tony Jefferson
Bacarri Rambo
DJ Swearinger
Other

NT:
Star Lotulelei
Johnathan Hankins
Jesse Williams
John Jenkins
Other

LB:
Manti Te'o
Barkevious Mingo
Bjoern Werner
Dion Jordan
Jarvis Jones
Sam Montgomery
Nico Johnson
Shayne Skov
C.J. Mosely
Kevin Minter
Chase Thomas
Alec Ogletree
Other

I'll stick with guys that could possibly make it to our pick:

Anthony Barr-1st year playing OLB in college after switching to defense and has looked very explosive and skilled. Sky is the limit for him.

Eric Reid- Has not lived up to potential and might even slip out of the 1st round. I personally would love to see what C. Lake could do with this young fella

Dion Jordan- Similar potential as Barr. Very versatile with ability to do whatever is needed on defense.

Johnathan Hankins- Always need a dominant force in the middle of the 3-4

Shayne Skov- 2nd rd guy but I love his aggessive demeanor on the field. Reminds me of Cushing minus the steroids.

Chase Thomas- another 2nd rd guy. Does everything good but nothing great. He will be a good player for 10 years but probably will never be a 15 sack guy

J.Jenkins- Not as high on him as others but think he could end up being our best option if some of the flashier players are picked ahead of our #1 pick

yeah, Barr is incredible. Totally raw, unfinished product. Hope that allows him to sink down to us.

I'm a fan of Rambo for the Safeties. For the D-line I like Jesse Williams and John Hankins. I don't know enough about the ILB's and actually I don't know much about any of the dudes you listed for any position. Laughing

I hope so too. Normally I would say no, but this year there are so many edge rushers someone has to fall. I mean look at top guys: Jones, Moore, Mingo, Montgomery, Werner, Lemonier, Okafor, Thomas, the other guy from Florida State, cant think of his name. Then you look at the Interior Lineman and there are about 7-8 1st round guys there. Someone has to fall when looking at the sheer numbers. Im hoping its Jordan or Barr.

Outside of the elite few, the two guys who really intrigue me are Louis Nix and Kenny Vacarro.

Obviously dependent on Nix declaring.

Damontre Moore is a guy I might go up and get if he does get within range.

Brandon Jenkins and Cornellius Carradine are the FSU guys. I doubt they get anywhere near the first round due to injuries.

You bring up a good point. I hope the guys you listed go earlier (other than Damontre Moore), and that Barr falls to us

I just hope we get 3 LBs, 1-2 Safeties and a stud DL.
A RB would be nice, as would another receiver, but I feel like we
really need to rebuild our middle.

I like Vaccaro and Reid at Safety, and Rambo as well.

At LB it all so depends on how it unfolds. I think one project OLB and one steady performer, and in the middle a thumper. So I wouldn't want Dion Jordan and Barr, as I think the development of each is just too unpredictable. I'd rather se something Lemonier in the 2nd as a solid, proven pass rusher, and then go with someone with RAW talent elsewhere. I really like (Te'o of course) Reddick, Skov and N.Johnson in the third. I think Kennard from USC could be a nice late round pick as an OLB.

So RD 1, unless someone really falls, I think it's either the best Safety ion the draft or more likely someone like Sylvester Williams, Jesse Williams, Jones from Georgia, or Hankins.

This would be very nice to me...

RD 1 NT S.Williams or J.Williams
RD 2 S K.Vaccaro or E.Reid
RD 3 MLB S.Skov or Reddick
RD 4 OLB Best available
RD 5 RB Best available
RD 6 S Best available
RD 7 Best available at any position

I personally would like a 1st round pass-rusher but don't see that happening. It'd be a luxury pick. Suppose we release james harrison, we still have worilds who is starting to playing up to his potentials, so what next? Will this kid be a pass-rushing specialist? Ugh hate that word.

Inside linebacker is more of a possible than olb- mosley, nico johnson, chase thomas, and.few came to mind. However we still have timmons and foote who still can perform decently but we eventually need a replacement.

When I'm up for sexiness of those hot chicks that we usually see on gameday posts... d-line is more likely.

I personally like anthony barr but like dion jordan more based on more proven experience. Barr has pierre-paul all written over him.

If Tony Jefferson comes out and we somehow get him. We win.

I still don't know what games anybody is watching on TJ McDonald that makes anyone remotely want him. His brother is already better than he is.

Reid may end up to be a frustrating pick. He is a far better player than McDonald but his abilities may not translate well to the pros. I'm not so much concerned with his performance this year as his potential physical limitations. His start/stop change of direction ability vs more shiftier receivers could be a very big concern.

Dion Jordan should be top 10 with his abilities and potential.

3 players I have seen appear to be the most solid of the draft. Two guards and a tight end. Chance Warmack, Larry Warford & Tyler Eiffert.

Top 10's should be all over the place this year as there are very few that have been consistent as you would expect from top 10 talent.

There is much more 10-45 type talent in this draft than there really is any top 10.

Next years draft which should include Clowney, Marquise Lee and lets hope an improved Logan Thomas as all 3 are potential elite prospects, the first two would be the best two prospects of this draft, Thomas despite all his issues this year still could go as the #1 qb taken in this draft if he came out as his ability/potential is much greater than the other available qbs.
