Give me a proven good/great DC and let him build a defense. | You realize that we do not have the personnel for a 3-4 right? Our 4-3 may be crappy looking now, but that type of defense has less work to do in order to get good. _________________

Houston was in 4-3 was much worse than us, but they made an easy transition. Granted they had more pieces, but we don't know who could play what and where, and it all depends on system etc. _________________

And Bowles, not Marty, will be the interim.
Which means Marty is gone and Bowles has a slim chance of staying. |

Granted they had more pieces, but we don't know who could play what and where, and it all depends on system etc. | We have no NT for a 3-4. We might have 2 ends (Cox and Thornton), but most likely only Cox could start there. Cole, Graham and Curry could maybe play OLB, but that is a stretch IMO. Kendricks and Ryans at ILB is a major question mark (with Ryans having failed in it and eventually shipped out from in HOU). Oh, and guess what else all succesful 3-4 defenses have; two competent, above average safeties. Something we lack too. _________________

Ryans was still not 100% healthy from his Achilles injury.
Check the best 3-4 Defenses in the league. NT is greatly overrated, if you have two good Ends (Cox could be one, and we could draft another early on, heck even Thornton might be it) and you can have a really good defense.
Cullen Jenkins was a 4-3 RDE, am I the only one who think it's possible to get Trent to bulk up and be a 3-4 End? _________________

I would much rather run a 4-3 like SEA does. Get big bodied dudes up front (they run Red Bryant at DE, when he's really a DT) while inserting situational pass rushers on particular downs, big/physical CBs plus play making safeties, and LBs than clean up the plays. I understand we're most likely getting a new DC this summer (in addition to HC), but whoever comes in will still need to work with some of the scraps left on our on midnight nike green table. _________________

I'm sort of hoping for Rex Ryan, even with his loud mouth, I think a guy like Chip Kelly could handle him. _________________

I barely even see an All-Pro on our defense, let alone two HOF caliber guys. I don't want Rex and the circus he would bring, relation to Buddy and all included. _________________

And he had the best defense in 2009 and one heck of a defense as well in 2010. Yeah he had Revis, but Ed and Ray was up the middle, Revis was on the outside, doesn't that show versatility?
When Rex was in Baltimore was Suggs "great" I think he was good, heck maybe even really good, but that's the best edge rusher he worked with. _________________

But I don't see his scheme fitting with the carry over in personnel this offseason, unless we expect to have like 7-8 new starters in 2013. I guess at the end of the day anything is possible, but I am not on the same page as you with Rex, at all. _________________

No problem. I doubt a new HC would bring Rex in as well. _________________

All we have are a bunch of has-beens and no-bodies with maybe one too early to tell All-Pro. _________________

Fletcher Cox. He has the ability. He needs to work his butt off though. _________________
