Bernard Pollard is literally the closest we've come this year to an impact defensive player being healthy this year, and even he had a tiny injury scare in Week 2. Everyone else: Ngata, Suggs, Ray, Webb, the permanent gimp Ed Reed, and then 2nd wave younger guys like McPhee, Ellerbe, Jimmy Smith, and Cody, have all been battered by injuries at different points this year. I guess on the one hand after staying relatively healthy last year this is the sort of regression to the mean that I was half expecting, but still, it's absolutely absurd to see that our entire defense is walking wounded. _________________

I think it's a testament to what we were all saying during the offseason (RE: one particular discussion)... good teams must, can and do overcome injuries to star players. |

Texans have been hurt without Cushing and Reed
Patriots without Gronk, Mankins and Volmer
Pitt has had it even worse
A lot of injuries to key personnel on the teams in the AFC playoff hunt for sure |

What god awful luck that the Ravens have had this year.. Suggs tearing his ACL during gte off season, and how tearing a bicep. Ray Lewis tears his tricep, and the Webb gets lost for the season due to an ACL problem. All these injuries, yet even when everyone is healthy for them, they still have one of the worst defenses in the league, at least statistically.. which is a surprise because of the talent they have.. like everyone ive already mentioned.. and add of Ngata, and a couple others. I just wonder why the D regressed so much. _________________

I don't wonder: We severely underestimated the impact Suggs makes on that defense.
Not to mention the starters we lost in the off-season.
If Suggs misses the next game, that would mean that only Ngata, McClain, Cary Williams, Pollard and Ed are the returning starters from last year playing.
When we didn't have Suggs, we had 0 pass rush. Kruger was seeing double teams, Albert McClellan wasn't getting any rush, and we let QBs sit back there all day -- not to mention Dean Pees isn't big on sending a bunch of guys. Then of course there was the run defense issue (which many Ravens fans brought up in the off-season as a potential problem) due to replacing two stout run defenders in Jarrett Johnson and Cory Redding with guys who were more about getting to the QB (Kruger and McPhee), and for some reason having Ma'ake Kemo taking the place of Mount Cody.
It was defensive turmoil at the beginning of the season. Recently they've most certainly gotten better which can be attributed to A) getting more comfortable in the system, B) getting Suggs back (impacts both run and pass game not to mention our defensive swagger), and C) better defensive line play (Jones in for McPhee makes our run defense better, Ngata being rested and healed 100%). _________________

Bad news for Baltimore. They certainly have had hard luck with injuries this year. _________________ I bought one of those tapes to teach you Spanish in your sleep. During the night, the tape skipped. Now I can only stutter in Spanish.
