Ok, so according to the ESPN Playoff Machine we have 2 avenues left into the playoffs (unless I missed one, but I don't think I did). In one scenario, we need help; in the other, we control our own destiny:
Playoff Entry #1: Division Title
We win out and we win the division. This is the simplest way for us to make it.
Also, if the Giants lose 1 of their final 2, the results of the Saints game won't matter. It would still come down to the final game against Washington. If the Giants win both of their last 2 games though, we need to have beaten the Saints.
Playoff Entry #2: Wildcard berth as #6 seed
Basically it all depends on Chicago. If they win either of these last 2 games(@AZ, @Det), we are eliminated from Wild Card contention. If the Bears somehow lose both games however:
-If the Giants win out, we must beat the Redskins to get the Wild Card Birth.
If the Giants lose a game, we must beat the Saints and lose to the Skins to get the Wild Card Birth.
Ok, I think I got that right. That thing can confuse me sometimes [/u] _________________

If Minnesota Chicago and Dallas all tie for the last WC spot we get it. |

No we won't because Chicago owns the head-to-head. Trust me, if Chicago wins ONE more game, we have no Wild Card hopes. _________________

Right now, Minnesota would get in because they have a better conference record than Chicago and Dallas.
Chicago would be next because it owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over Dallas.
FWIW, the Boys need to win both of their remaining games and have Minnesota and Chicago to lose at least one game to potentially get a wild card berth. I say potentially because the Giants are also in the midst of the wild card.
For the division, Washington is 1st, Dallas is 2nd, and then the Giants are 3rd.
For the wild card, the "standings" are:
1. Seattle
2. Minnesota
3. Chicago
4. Dallas
5. NY Giants
The Giants could still leapfrog the Boys. If they lose against Baltimore but beat Philly while the Boys beat NO but lose to Washington, the Giants would win the tiebreaker due to a better conference record (they would both have equivalent division records at 3-3). _________________

Hey TSSS, aren't we eliminated from Wild Card contention if Chicago even wins just one more game?
And, if Minny wins out, we are eliminated from it as well correct? _________________

No. Both teams have 8-6 records with 2 games left. If Chicago goes 1-1 down the stretch, they'll be 9-7. If the Boys win both of their games, they'll be 10-6. _________________

But if we win both of our games, we win the division, therefore the Wild Card doesn't come into play... _________________

| Quote: | Alright according to NFL.
Heres how the NFC East Crown will be decided.
- If the Giants win out week 16 and 17 and BOTH the redskins and the cowboys finish 9-7 they make the playoffs.
- If redskins win out that means they won week 16 and 17 and make the playoffs.
- Dallas has the same situation as the redskins. |
UPDATE: If it is a three way division tie for 9-7 Cowboys win the NFC East
Just basically summarized. _________________

That is true, so then you would be correct. _________________

Not necessarily, Explained below:
Scenario 1. Good for us.
week 16:
giants(8-6)(2-3div) at ravens
saints at cowboys(8-6)(3-2div)
redskins(8-6)(3-1div) at eagles
Assuming:
Giants lose. Now (8-7)(2-3div)
Cowboys lose. Now (8-7)(3-2div)
Redskins win. Now (9-6)(4-1div)
week 17:
eagles at giants
cowboys at redskins
Assuming:
Giants win. Now (9-7)(3-3div)
Cowboys win. Now (9-7)(4-2div)
Redskins lose. Now (9-7)(4-2div)
Division Tiebreakers for more than two teams:
1. Head to head. All three would have went 1-1 against each other. Move to next tiebreaker.
2. Division record. Dallas and Wash 4-2, NYG 3-3. Giants eliminated. Move to next tiebreaker.
3. Won lost in common games:
Common Opp:--------DAL--WASH
Saints------------------ L----- W
Bengals----------------W---- L
Falcons---------------- L----- L
Giants-----------------W,L--- W,L
Eagles-----------------W,W-- W,W
Steelers----------------W---- L
Panthers---------------W---- L
Ravens-----------------L----- W
Browns---------------- W---- W
Buccaneers------------W---- W
Total:------------------ 8-4---7-5
Result: Dallas wins the division. Yeah.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scenario 2. Not so good for us.
week 16:
giants(8-6)(2-3div) at ravens
saints at cowboys(8-6)(3-2div)
redskins(8-6)(3-1div) at eagles
Assuming:
Giants lose. Now (8-7)(2-3div)
Cowboys win. Now (9-7)(3-2div)
Redskins lose. Now (8-7)(3-2div)
week 17:
eagles at giants
cowboys at redskins
Assuming:
Giants win. Now (9-7)(3-3div)
Cowboys lose. Now (9-7)(3-3div)
Redskins win. Now (9-7)(4-2div)
Division Tiebreakers for more than two teams:
1. Head to head. WASH vs NYG 1-1, DAL vs NYG 1-1, DAL vs WASH 0-2, Dallas eliminated. Move to next tiebreaker.
2. Division record. Redskins 4-2 vs NYG 3-3.
Result: Redskins win the division. Boooo! |

Lets hope that the Giants, Vikings, and Bears lose, and Washington wins. Maybe they'll sit RGIII then. |

Win out and get in. We make it so complicated with all that. If we can't beat the saints and the redskins we don't deserve to get in.
Especially since we will be facing the packers or the seahawks in the first round of the playoffs. _________________
