Notable FA
Avril (DE)
Delmas (S)
Houston (CB)
Levy (OLB)
Durant (OLB)
C. Will (DT)
SLH (DT)
Coleman (S)
Jackson (DE)
Young (DE) (Restricted)
Spievey (S) (Restricted)
Cherilus (OT)
Smith (RB)
Sign/Let-Go
BOLD - sign
Italics - Let go
Avril (DE)
Delmas (S)
Houston (CB)
Levy (OLB)
Durant (OLB) - I want to kep him, but I have a feeling he'll get a bg contract elsewhere
C. Will (DT)
SLH (DT)
Coleman (S)
Jackson (DE)
Young (DE) (Restricted)
Spievey (S) (Restricted)
Cherilus (OT)
Smith (RB)
Cut
Peterman (G)
Burleson (WR)
Best (RB) (Retire)
Logan (RB)
Young (WR)
KVB (DE)
Sign
LaRod Stephen-Howling (RB - ARI) - Quick back playing behind a terrible ARI OL. Can double as a KR
DAnny Amendola (WR - STL) - One of y favorite players, hard worker and great pass catcher, should be a great #2
Jarius Byrd (S - Buf) - Delmas needs to be paired with a pass oriented safety. Byrd would be a great pickup
Draft
Trade Down! from roughly 12 to 20...pick up a 2nd and 4th round pick
1(20) - Chris Warack (G - Alabama) - A top 15 prospect who falls to us (much like DeCastro did with Pittsburgh). A HUGE run blocker who is a good pass bloacker as well. He and Rieff could make a formidable left side of the OL for years to come, especially with the run game.
2(12) - Barrett Jones (c - Alabama) - Double dip with 'Bama linemen. Jones is the leader of a very good OL. His presence is needed both as a future replacement for Riola and a locker room presence. In his first year, he could replace Rieff (who should start next year for Cherilus) as the 6th OL in the 6 OL packages. I expect Jones to fall much like Peter Kon did last year
*2(20) - Desmond Trufant (CB - Washington) - Taller CB to pair with Houston. Should fight Bentley for the #2 spot
3(12) - Tank Carradine (DE - FL St) - The Lions were able to find a gem in Young 2 years ago in the 7th round, but havent tried to draft a DE since. The Lions will have to try again if both Avril and KVB leave. Carradine was a first round prospect until he tore his ACL, but the Lions didnt shy away from Broyles
4(12) - Traded to Jacksonville for WR Mike Thomas
4(20) - Roert Lester (S - Alabama) - After having an incredible sophomore season (8 ints) Lester hasnt been the same and has struggled some this year. In a deep safety class, Lester falls as the 7th overall safety taken
5(12) - Mike Taylor (OLB Wisc) - All-Big 10 LB
6(12) - Ray Graham (RB - Pitt) - Had a great junior year until a knee injury has casued him to struggle this year. Could be a sleeper
7(12) - Craig Roh (DE - Michigan)
2013 Starting Lineup
QB Stafford
RB LeShore, Bell, Stephen-Howling
WR CJ
WR Amendola
WR Broyles
TE Pettigrew/Scheffler
LT Rieff
LG Warack
C Riola/Jones
RB Simms
RT Backus
DE Young/Carradine/R.Lewis
DT Suh/SLH
DT Fairley/SLH
DE Jackson
OLB Levy
MLB Tulloch
OLB T.Lewis/Whitehead/Taylor
CB Houston
CB Bentley/Trufant/Green
S Delmas
S Byrd/Lester _________________

Hmmm. You didn't put Thomas in the depth chart, and you re-signed Spievey???
I think Thomas would be good enough that we wouldn't have to sign Amendola. I think we'd probably have to draft Warmack in the top #15 as well, but I'd be thrilled getting him while trading down(I did that in my mock).
I love your draft, and the mock is really exciting. _________________ Are you getting Ziggy with it? |

First thing I noticed is it is Chance Warmack.
I could live with this draft for sure. I highly doubt Lester falls that far.
I think it is very likely Warmack falls that far, Decastro did because teams just don't draft OGs that high. it would definitely help our line.
I like Tank and would be happy with the pick, just hope he would be ready for the season which seems to be more likely with many athletes returning after 7-9 months.
I also like Ray Graham and Roh in the late rounds.
I am not sure we can afford Byrd, but would be ok with it if it is a reasonable deal. I think he is living off the hype of the gaudy INT numbers his rookie year and am not sure he is really a great S. _________________

We could surely afford Byrd if we allowed Avril to walk. We've got some cash coming off the books this season, depending on how badly we go after our own. _________________ Are you getting Ziggy with it? |

I like it, but the rankings are off. Carradine would likely be a 2nd rounder. Lester a 2nd with a chance to slip to the top of the 3rd , Trufant a 3rd with a small chance to reach to reach the 4th. Hard to see Jones falling there too. _________________ Kate Upton for sexy President!!!

Oh, and Konz fell because of a heart problem, so I would hope a guy we draft won't have that. _________________ Kate Upton for sexy President!!!

I think it's a great mock. I think, as others have pointed out the draft positions are optimistic for the players selected.
I know Amendola is one of your fav players but I don't think the Lions need him. _________________

Looks pretty good to me, I'd be very happy if the offseason played out that way.
My only concern is letting Cherilus go. I would like the Lions to resign him for a reasonable deal if they can. If not, that just opens up another hole in 2014 when Backus' deal is up. |

Wow, really like the first three picks. Think all three would be day one starters.
Honestly though, I'm not sure Barrett Jones makes it to the 2nd round. |

I wouldnt think neither Warack nor Jones falls as far as I had them, but like said DeCastro and Konz fell much farther than I thought. Konz I realize had a heart ssue, bu he also fell much further (from being a lock to go to Baltimore at 23 to late 2nd round). Jones looks to be a late 1st/early 2nd guy so being there around 44th pick is pretty reasonable IMO.
I realize much of this is best case scenario, but at this juncture might as well hope for the best _________________

Actually like a lot about this mock and offseason. Not sure Roh lasts til round 7 but really knocking a mock based on projections past round 2 is pointless.
Every year we get high on guys who last a long time if not until UDFA. _________________
