Not saying it's a need now, but assuming we blow up the coaching staff, we could possibly release CJ. Don't we save a ton of money by releasing him? He's been great this year and I have loved the CJ we've seen these past couple of months, but he isn't vital right now and I could see Bud squeezing a penny if we start paying for two coaching staffs.

All that to say, if we release CJ, RB will be up there. Laughing

Yea I should've added it anyway bc our depth sucks behind CJ.

To me DE is far more of a need than OG, and maybe DT. The pass rush has been atrocious, I think Wimbley and Morgan should be the "depth" guys, preferably Wimbley since he seems to be more of a pass rusher, and that's about all he does.

I'm guessing you didn't include FS because Griffin seems to be locked in no matter how crappy he plays

I'd rank the top needs as

1. S (since both FS and SS are total junk)
2. DE
3. DT
4. OG
5. HB- we really need a competent back-up

Yea I didn't include FS because I doubt we cut Griffin.

I find it hard to take anyone in a leadership position (coaches and above) seriously while this guy is still starting. It's hard for me to believe that we are better off with him on the field.

We need a defensive stud. If that is Star or Werner, then let it be. We just have to have a gamechanger on defense. But DE/DT is an immediate need.
A Corner that can play outside and let Verner be the nickel.
A safety.....regardless of FS or SS...someone!

We should only resign Bironas, Lutui, Velasco, and the maybe's Quinn Johnson, McRath, and Cook; and let everyone else go away for sure.

What kind of compensatory picks do you think we'll get?

Probably a 6th for Finny when you include we signed Wimbley.

Can people stop freaking say we need to put Verner back in the nickel? Verner is a well above average outside corner, and it's just retarded to waste a high pick on corner when we have way more pressing needs. Verner gets consistently very high ratings from all the metrics websites, and it would be a joke if we replace him. Not to mention that moving him back into the nickel means that he WILL be signed away by another team after next year.

Anyways, I'm fine with the DT crew- it's 4 guys, the "eldest" of which is in his 3rd year. Defensive End is my #1/#2 need- I'd be fine with Wimbley and Morgan as starters IF, and only IF, we had some developing talent or solid veterans behind them. But as it stands, we've got nothing. Morgan's contract runs out soon, and Wimbley is probably better suited to a designated pass rushed role, so I think DE should be our first or second round pick.

I'd really like Eric Reid, or one of the other top safeties, in the second round. I think Johnson is better suited to playing FS- we only put him on the field when we're playing 2-deep, and play Babs when we're in Cover-1. Reid is a true SS with the ability to play deep coverage if needed, and I like our defense a lot more when we're in the Cover-1, so adding a true SS and switching into cover-1 would make me really happy.

Otherwise, OG is my big need. Velasco has really solidified this year, and should 100% be resigned. PFF has him in their top 5 centers right now, and no metric site has him as doing badly. But Hutch is old as heck, Lutui has been good, but is about to hit 30, and both could be upgraded. If Barrett Jones or Chance Warmack are around in the second when we pick, but none of the top safeties are left, I'd take them.

Let's also not forget about how dominant Casey looked in the preseason before his injury, how above average Marks looked before his injury, and how good Mike Martin has looked in his time so far.

The only DT I would take in the first two rounds is Star Loutoei. He's a Hall of Fame potential prospect. The rest of the high level guys look good, but the difference between their value and our current guys isn't enough for me to buy into them.

On the other hand, this draft may not have a top-3 pick defensive end, but it's got so many first rounders and honestly 5 guys I think can be top 15 that we should go in that direction.

Marks has played ok this year but he's not starter material and he'll be a FA this offseason. I doubt he's coming back. DT is the strongest position in this draft. There's potentially 7 guys that could go in the 1st. Casey is a pretty good run defender with a solid pass-rush but has no one noticed that when our ends do beat their man, all the QB has to do is step up in the pocket and he's fine. That's because there's hardly any push from our other DT beside Casey. Klug is looking like a 1 year wonder and Martin IMO will never be starter material. Lotulelei, Hankins, Richardson, Nix, or Jenkins in the 1st would be my pick. If Moore is available when we pick then I'd jump at the pick but that's the only DE I'd consider with our most likely top 10 pick. The O-Line has played pretty solid this season and in no way would I take a guard that high. Get one in the 3rd or through FA.
