As of now, the Falcons have 19.5M in cap with another 5.5 available should they cut Turner, which they likely will.
The current players under contract:
QB Matt Ryan
RB's Michael Turner, Jason Snelling, Jacquizz Rodgers
FB Bradie Ewing
WR's Roddy White, Julio Jones, Harry Douglas, Kerry Meier, Kevin Cone
OL's Tyson Clabo, Lamar Holmes, Peter Konz, Mike Johnson, Justin Blalock, Joe Hawley
DE's John Abraham, Kroy Biermann, Jonathan Massaquoi, Cliff Matthews
DT's Jonathan Babineaux, Corey Peters, Peria Jerry, Travian Robertson
LB's Sean Weatherspoon, Akeem Dent, Stephen Nicholas, Robert James
CB's Asante Samuel, Dunta Robinson, Dominique Franks
S's Shann Schillinger, Charles Mitchell, Thomas DeCoud
K Matt Bryant
P Matt Bosher
ERFA's (costing around 540k)
QB Dominique Davis
RB Josh Vaughan
WR Drew Davis
WR Marcus Jackson
WR James Rodgers
WR Tim Toone
TE Chase Coffman
TE Andrew Szczerba
TE Tommy Gallarda
TE Adam Nissley
OG Jacques McLendon
OG Harland Gunn
OG Phillipkeith Manley
DT Micanor Regis
LB Pat Schiller
CB Peyton Thompson
LS Josh Harris
RFA's (anywhere from 1.2M to 3.5M)
TE Michael Palmer
CB Robert McClain
UFA's (free for all)
QB Luke McCown
RB Antone Smith
FB Mike Cox
TE Tony Gonzalez
OT Sam Baker
OT Will Svitek
OG Garrett Reynolds
C Todd McClure
DE Lawrence Sidbury
DT Vance Walker
LB Mike Peterson
CB Brent Grimes
CB Chris Owens
S Chris Hope
S William Moore
The RFA's and ERFA's will all re-sign with Atlanta for cheap because it's essentially team has control. That should take about 4 of the 25M in top 51 cap. That leaves 15 UFA's. Say that Tony Gonzalez, Mike Peterson, Todd McClure all retire. It means we have 12 guys that are looking at free agency.
Cut Michael Turner
QB Luke McCown - let walk
RB Antone Smith - let walk
FB Mike Cox - let walk
OT Sam Baker - let walk
OT Will Svitek - let walk
OG Garrett Reynolds - let walk
DE Lawrence Sidbury - let walk
DT Vance Walker - re-sign to a 3 yr/14M deal (first year cap of 2.5M)
CB Brent Grimes - let walk
CB Chris Owens - re-sign to a 3 yr/8M deal (first year cap of 1.75M)
S Chris Hope - let walk
S William Moore - re-sign for to a 5 yr/35M deal (first year cap of 4.25M)

Going into free agency, the Falcons would have a projected 12.9M with my plan and as you see, there aren't any major holes but Left Tackle and Tight end. With 12.9M to spend, I say worry about the TE hole in the draft and make this move in free agency.
Sign Jake Long to a 7 year, 90M dollar contract (first year hit of 7M)
Gives us a franchise LT long term and shores up the OL. The combination up front would look like this:
Jake Long (6'7" 320) - Justin Blalock (6'4" 335) - Joe Hawley (6'3" 305) - Peter Konz (6'5" 315) - Tyson Clabo (6'6" 335)
That's a beast line if I've ever seen one and with the guard depth of Gunn and Manley and tackle depth of Holmes and Johnson, we would just need a good backup center in the draft. So I would then do this for the draft:
TRADE - 2013 1st round pick and 3rd round pick to Miami for their pair of 2nd rounders
2nd - TE Tyler Eifert - Notre Dame - 6'6" 252 - RS JR
2nd - RB Giovani Bernard - North Carolina - 5'10" 205 - RS SO
2nd - DE/LB Chase Thomas - Stanford - 6'4" 248 - SR
4th - C Khaled Holmes - Southern Cal - 6'3" 305 - RS SR
4th (comp for Lofton) - NT Brandon Williams - Missouri Southern State - 6'2" 328 - RS SR
5th - S Shawn Williams - Georgia - 6'1" 218 - SR
6th - TE Travis Kelce - Cincinnati - 6'6" 260 - RS SR
7th - LB Justin Tuggle - Kansas State - 6'3" 235 - RS SR
Final depth chart
QB Matt Ryan/Dominique Davis
RB Giovani Bernard/Jaquizz Rodgers/Jason Snelling/Josh Vaughan
FB Bradie Ewing
WRF Roddy White/Kevin Cone/Tim Toone

A few highligts that stick out to me
Aw Grimes
Same goes for Tony G, McClure, and even Peterson but they're all ancient for their respective positions so it is to be expected.
LOVE making the big splash to pick up Jake Long, he could do wonders for our line
I think its a fantastic draft all around
although I'm not huge on making Bernard our feature back, he's gotta be an upgrade over Turner at this point and I'd be ecstatic about every other pick _________________ formerly MadAtFalcons |

Like everything except getting a WR somewhere as someone said and I really think Bernard goes in round 1. _________________

I've been impressed with Drew Davis and with Meier, Davis, Toone, and Cone all having multiple years in the scheme heading into next training camp, it will be good. _________________

Roddy isn't getting any younger and Harry hasn't quite stepped it up. Def need a WR that is speedy that could challenge Harry for the slot. _________________

Meh, Davis is not a guy who can challenge Harry. He is good depth but thats all. _________________

That's a big nut to put out there for Jake Long. Long was great, but has steadily decline over the past two years.
The idea of trading miami for 2 second rounders isn't bad, good talent that would be an impact.
THE only thing is, I really feel that adding a veteran guy in the secondary is very important. In your scenario, Samuel and Robinson are our starters and leaves us very thin given their age. I would rather take a solid veteran corner and resign Baker that put that huge amount on Long. |

| Don't listen to the naysayers Scar. My only problem is what happens if Matt Ryan goes down. So I think we need to try to find a backup quarterback of some quality but other than that it's it's fantastic. Love the pick up of 2nd rounders. |

Not a big fan to be honest. First off, you're paying a huge amount for a piece ryan and this offense has proven is not needed
Second, why key grimes walk, he'll never be cheaper, Asante could walk next year and IMO grimes is the best out of the three. Also, I believe someone already said it but td moves up much more often than moving back. If being realistic is the goal, it's likely we either stay still or go up. Lastly, no way gio Bernard lasts to the 2nd |

Hey guys, what the chances William Moore hits the open market? Thanks for any input. I'm assuming he at least gets franchised if not locked up... _________________

As much as I would love to snag Eifert, there's just no way he drops that far.
Love it otherwise, realistic and makes sense. _________________ Reggie Wayne for HOF
