This is a stacked team as we all know, and were fortunate to root for a team with this much talent. Who is our number 1 player in this team, the best?
Players that qualify
Justin Smith
Patrick Willoa
Aldon Smith
NaVarro Bowman
Dashon Goldson
Mike Iupati
Alex Boone
Vernon Davis
Frank Gore
Joe Staley (having a really good year)
Ahmad Brooks
I will go with Justin Smith. He is what makes our defense run. No slight to Willis either, just love number 94[/i] _________________ -Not taking this off until the 49ers win #6 |

Justin Smith may be as or more important than anybody on our team, but I think Patrick Willis is the best player. _________________

It's between Willis and Gore, for me. Pat isn't receiving the credit he is due, since last year, because people have fallen in love with Bowman. But Pat is still the man. And Gore... he has been the most underrated RB in the NFL for the last 6-7 years. Especially with Kap on the field now, he is even more important, with his experience and knowledge of the game, of the offense and of the adjustments to make. Right now, I think he is the single-most important player on offense. An injury would be devastating. We could lose any other player, and we could get by. But Gore, that would hurt our chances more than anything else.
If I used the same argument on defense, it would be Justin Smith, the most important player, but he's just not the best player on defense. It's an odd distinction. It's weird to say, but Justin is more one-dimensional. His job is to be an unstoppable force, that's all he has to do, and he does it extremely well.
It's like the eternal debate: who would win a fight between The Hulk and Superman?
But to answer the question, I have to go with Gore. He's the most supremely talented player on the team, he's a special hall of fame kind of talent, who just had the misfortune of playing on a bad team for so long. _________________

Patrick Willis is the best player IMO. I love the Gore choice, but what drops him to me is his receiving out of the backfield. This guy was one of the best in the league just three years ago, and now he drops the easiest passes. Still, Frankie G for President!!!!!!! _________________

Everybody knows Gore's drops were caused by bad ball placement. _________________

But the old Frankie G would make magic happen with JT O'Turnover throwing to him . _________________

It's not Gore anymore. Before when he was the heart and soul of our team yes. Now, not so much. Frank is still a beast but he isn't what he once was. Put 06 or 07 Gore behind this line and we are looking at crazy numbers. He still makes plays and turns little gains/loses into 5-10 yard gains but he isn't the same.
I would still say he is probably the most important player on our offense but I also might give that to Davis because he creates so many match up problems.
I would say Willis on the defense. He is the best LB in the NFL and is the guy who covers the TEs. In today's NFL that is a big deal. He still gets beat every now and then but he still does a stellar job while Bowman does the other stuff. _________________
