First Passing play, Cards come out in a set that includes a lot of man coverage cannot tell the exact call because Both ILB's and Both Safeties come down hard on the run, it is a playaction pass and Lenon allows Mulligan to run across him and Bradford hits him for 15 yards.

Press Man Cover 1, Patrick Peterson at safety, Rashad Johnson at CB, Johnson Blitzes, Peterson rolls down onto the receiver. Cards showed overload blitz on the opposite side, but Washington drops out and plays some good man coverage on the slot man.Thrown at Gay covering the 9 route, thrown out of bounds.

First down, Cards play Man Coverage with their Corners safeties rolled up into the box, Rams go playaction and again get plenty of bites, Acho shadows Kendricks almost as if he is reading run, but playing backside contain. Ball is thrown incomplete to Kendricks.

Cards look a little confused presnap, take a while to get lined up. Motion one receiver away from playside, they run a WR screen to Givens. Cards are in Cover 1. Toler and Gay are the playside CB's. Toler takes a terrible angle, Gay gets stuck inside, Givens makes one guy miss, both CB's have taken themselves out of the play or are blocked out of the play and Givens has room to run.

Playaction, Cards in 2 man coverage, Eason gets great push up the middle and forces Bradford to scramble.

Cover 1, Cards come with a "zone" blitz of 5 men. Sander, Lenon and Washington blitz, Acho and Groves drop into short zone coverage. Toler in Man is beaten on a cut, better thrown ball is likely completed.

A-Gap Blitz from Washington, nobody even gets near him. Wells the C misdiagnoses the MIKE. He slides left opening up a huge hole for Washington to blitz through. Cards came with 5. Had 3 vs 2 on the left, 2 v 2 on the Right and Washington coming untouched up the middle for the sack.

Playaction again from the Rams. Patrick Peterson in lined up across from Givens who motions tight to the LOS late. Is still in motion when the ball is snapped, run runs a route behind the offensive line and then pops out on the other side in the flat for an easy pitch and catch for Bradford. I don't know exactly what should have happened here. Whether Groves playing run contain should have picked him up, whether there should have been some coverage switches that end up with on of Gay, Lenon or Walker on him. I have no idea really who this one is on. Will take suggestions from anyone, but for now it sits under "other".

Cover 1, Cards rush 6 leave four in man coverage with one deep. Bradford tries to find Chris Givens, but Mike Adams makes a very good play on the football.

2 Man Coverage, Gay is on Amendola in the slot. He runs a wheel route while the outside man runs a post. The post occupies the safety on that side of the field leaving the the slot receiver in 1 v 1 coverage without safety help. Amedola makes a tremendous catch, Gay never locates the football.

Playaction from the Rams, Cover 1 from the Cards, LB's and safety bite on the playaction. Peterson in press man on Pettis, Peterson playing outside technique (Force play inside towards your safeties and linebackers in zone coverage) gets a press on the outside shoulder (again pushing him inside as per the technique) however with the safety biting on the playaction Pettis has space to the inside. Bradford sees this and throws the ball at Pettis. Peterson makes a play very, very few corners make. In Press Man playing outside technique he undercuts a slant and makes the interception. he stretches for the ball and plucks it with strong hands. Kerry Rhodes gets away with one here, Peterson saves him big time.

Playaction again, 2 Man with Johnson lined up over a receiver and he and Rhodes switch roles on a drag route (Rhodes starts deep and comes down onto the drag route as it hits his side of the field, Johnson starts over the drag route and then drops into the middle as he moves onto Rhodes side of the field) Groves makes a good read and gets a big hit on Bradford. Throws off his backfoot never really has a chance to be completed Gibson the target, Peterson in coverage.

Cover 3 from Arizona for Clemens only pass attempt. Cards show blitz then rush three, Dockett drops into coverage on Jackson on a short hook. Dockett gets a piece and knocks it down.

Cover One, Off Man Coverage across the board. Givens runs a deep comeback route in front of Toler who came out of his backpedal too early allowing Givens to create separation.

Playaction, Cards in Cover 4 (Four deep three under) Washington and Gay both bite on playaction. This leaves Gay Trailing his man (Could have been the target) and makes Kendricks the easy underneath target in the zone Washington should have covered. Rhodes makes a pathetic attempts at a tackle. He needs to make a play here to help the Cards live another down.

Playaction, 2 Man with Johnson playing over a receiver. Bethel allows Givens a free release and this is the biggest downfall of the play. He gets into good trail position and forces Bradford to make the perfect throw. He does and Givens makes an outstanding catch. Solid push up the middle from Williams and Washington, and extra half a second and this could have been a sack. An extra half a second that could have been bought with a better press at the LOS from Bethel.

Cards rush four with Cover one on the back end. Groves just runs around his man and knocks the ball away from Bradford. No one but Sam ever looked like recovering it.

Playaction Rollout. Aggressive defensive flows towards run Dockett makes a good read and chases Bradford, good downfield coverage forces him to throw it away.

Cover Four from Arizona.Playaction again from the Rams, David Carter makes a great push up the middle and probably should have ended up with a sack, Forces Bradford to roll out to his left. He throws the ball to Quick on a deep comeback on Toler. Ball falls incomplete.

Cover One, Rams move the pocket to the right. Bradford rolls out at full speed and tries to make the throw to Pettis. Peterson in coverage.

Cover One, Cards blitz 6. 4 in Man, 1 deep zone. Givens makes one slightly rounded out cut and creates big separation from Gay, Rhodes cannot come downhill fast enough to make the play.

- Plenty of worrying signs with the pass rush. It was just not there this week.
- Toler and Gay are our 3rd and 4th best corners. Really wonder what is wrong with Fleming.
- Gay>Toler, it may (or may not) show in the metrics, but at least Gay plays good coverage some of the time, most of the time Toler is out of position, and if targeted would be allowing a catch.
- David Carter looks good when he gets into the game, but stuck behind two elite players he struggles to get into the game.
- With Carter on the team we really did not need to rush Dockett back into the lineup.
- We bite on the playaction, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. The Rams ran it a hell of a lot against us with a lot of success. Beware fans, the playaction will kill us sooner rather than later against a good Quarterback.

In the last 3 weeks, per your threads, Sam Acho has 1 hit, 0 pressures and 0 sacks. Nevermind the run game issues.

It's worry time for Mr. Macho Acho/

It's worry time for the position in general.

QB, OL, ILB, OLB

Up for grabs in the off season.

Top FA OLB available next season is Anthony Spencer. Not really a premiere pass rusher... so I think we have to address it in the draft.

TOP FA ILB available.. Urlacher but hes old and injury riddled and I doubt he'd play anywhere except for Chicago. Again, probably in the draft.

I don't expect much from free agency this offseason.

From what I have seen on the field in terms of coverage technique it is the guy that is not getting on the field right now, Fleming.

Urlacher's never played in a 3-4 either.

Most likely scenario is either signing Lenon to a one year deal (OUCH) or digging through the muck that is the FA pool of veteran ILB and HOPING someone can come in a be a bandaid for a year or two while a mid round pick (3rd or 4th) develops.

As far as OLB goes, it's draft or bust. Those guys don't hit the open market...ever.

The biggest difference between the two is rookie pass rushers make big time impacts every year while rookie ILB, especially in our system, would be lost and burried on the depth chart.

No chance we take an ILB early because of that. Whomever we take, first and second round, will be expected to play quickly.

An elite pass rusher would put this defense over the top IMO. We can be elite with what we have in the secondary, along the DL and at ILB. We jsut lack a true elite pass rushers who would really push this unit to the next level.

Elite pass rusher won't help our run game woes. With the division we're in that kind of limits where we can go defensively. San Francisco and Seattle are both in the top 6 of the league in rushing attempts and that's no changing any time soon. If we can't stop the run, that's 4 games right there that we're gonna struggle to win...every year. Elite pass rusher doesn't help that.

We need less 2-4-5. That plus a pass rusher and we've got something.

the defense is great but a good pass rusher would make them elite. I know Moore could play in a 3-4 beacuse he has in the past, but i am not sure if Werner can

Elite defense stop the run. A pass rusher doesn't change that, especially a guy who's likely going to be adjusting to playing with his hand up and likely in and out of the lineup on run downs because of it.

If we kept this secondary and defensive line the exact same and added an elite edge rusher, we'd be close however we'll never be elite with Paris Lenon starting at ILB.

Wish Daryl could call it, that would allow is play a younger guy sooner.

That's right, look at Dallas up until this year with Sean Lee and the kid from UNC.

Years they had Ratliff and Ware, but were tourched in the run game.
