Instead of doing a mock offseason....I was wondering what everyone's take is in FA. If you could, give a reason why you want this player.
NOTE: Some of these guys obviously arent necessarily leaving their current teams so dont jump all over me for some of these guys _________________

Mike Wallace is one of the 5-8 best WRs in the entire game. He completely changes this team on offense. He's clearly A-1.
Too bad you can't do forced rank voting.... _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

| I would probably take Dwayne Bowe, I dont see Mike Wallace as being realistically available. The Steelers wont let him go, they can franchise tag him. I dont get the same feeling about Bowe and the Chiefs. Id love Wallace dont get me wrong, but I think Bowe and even Greg Jennings are more likely. |

Agreed. I said Bowe but I would go Wallace too. One thing I've always noticed with Bowe is he has always been on a crap team with nobody throwing to him and still manages to put up solid numbers. Ponder is no stud but he's better than anything KC's had.
Its hard to not love Wallace. His speed would take the top off defenses just like Randy Moss did. _________________

The question wasn't who can they realistically get....he made that pretty clear in his post.
I agree, Pittsburgh won't let him leave, but that was not the question. If I ignore the question, then Bowe. _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

I almost feel like Wallace is in the same predicament that Jennings is in. The steelers have other good receivers (Brown and Sanders). It will be interesting to see if Plaxico can perform when Big Ben gets back. But you're right.....Green Bay doesnt even need Jennings when they have Nelson, Cobb, and Jones. I just cant see Jennings ever signing with us...But hey...the last player I ever expected to sign with us is Brett Favre so who knows _________________

Can anyone give one truly solid example of a "#1 WR" going from a team where his identity was born to a new team as a FA and ever living up to the hype?
No.
Randy Moss? moved through trades.
Terrell Owens? get real ...
Plax? - I think he did better in NY than at Pittsburg up until, well you know.
Jerry Rice? -- mmmm, nope
Vincent Jackson - remains to be seen, but at least he's looking promising.
Keyshawn Johnson and his running mate Kennan McCardell? - might be closest examples of performing at high levels after moving from team to team.
The list can go on and on . . . matter of fact, the only guy that ever left one team and truly exceeded expectations might well be one Cris Carter 9(until he left the Vikes).
So, no - I don't want the Vikes to grab a #1 WR from FA:
1.) You'll over pay.
2.) The production is not usually worth the cost.
3.) WRs are traditionally fragile -- legs and concussions are problems.
Now a LG or DT, I'm game for that in FA. The Vikes have done well in that regard too . . . Hutch, Allen, Big Pat, but like all teams, they missed on Remi and Charlie Johnson. |

Melton to me, I like Wallace at WR, but he won't come at a half decent rate, Melton won't either, but as a DT, he's probably to come by slightly cheaper. Get a NT and put him at UT for the Vikings, he'd basically be what Kevin Williams was five years ago, pair that with Allen and Robinson would be nasty. _________________ Gnat's Movie Reviews

Andy Levitre.
One of the best guards in football, only 26, and arguably this team's biggest need. _________________

-1st of all, Randy Moss set the TD record in NE so that doesnt work
-TO is a headcase but still played solid in Dallas
-Plax played great in NY
-Jackson IS having a great season in TB and I dont think he is overpayed at all
-Rice was borderline retirement so that makes no sense...Plus he went to Oakland who ruins everyones career.
-I was never impressed with Keyshawn but thats just me
....So your philosophy isnt making much sense.
These receivers listed are still fairly young.....especially Wallace.
I believe Wallace and Bowe have proven they deserve big money and Jennings I would give a little less to just bc injuries worry me. _________________

And since you brought up Randy Moss moving through trades....Brandon Marshall moved through a trade this year and Im pretty sure he's doing good....and dont try to bring up him going to Miami because they havent had a QB worth a crap since Marino _________________

Not to mention it would have a direct negative affect on the Bears _________________

The free agent market for really good OGs is pretty competitive and gets expensive. Not sure I want to pay $50M for a OG. |

Switch Bowe and Jennings and that's my top also.
They won't get an impact rookie WR, probably, so if you want an actual WR on the roster next year, they should sign one.
Will he be "worth" it, probably not, but that's the general nature of free agents in all of sports. But in the grand scheme of things, I'd rather they pay a WR $3MM too much a year, than sign nobody that actually contributes. _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |
