Quick Draft

Trade down a few spots to get extra 4th

2a. Alex Ogletree ILB Georgia-plays all over the field. Finally get a field general in the middle

2b. Sharrif Floyd DT Florida: While he isn't putting up huge numbers @ DE, I think, if he moves back in to DT he could have a Geno Atkins-type impact.

3. Williams Gholston DE MSU: can never have enough pass rushers

4a. Le'Veon Bell RB MSU: big bruiser back who should complement a more svelt Hillman

4b. Markus Wheaton WR Oregon St: PFM meet your new slot receiver

5. Joseph Fauria TE UCLA: Christian's Nephew for those that remember the former Buff. Not a speed threat but quite the mismatch with his jumping ability, soft hands and is a bear after the catch.

6.John Wetzel ROT BC: big-bodied player. Provides depth.

7. TJ Johnson OC/OG South Carolina: provides depth along the line.

Thoughts? Recommendations
(I've seen Sharrif going all over the place (from 1st to 3rd) so I picked a happy medium)

I think Wheaton will go in the 2nd this year. I'd be ecstatic if we got him. He's going to be a good one and we need more playmakers at WR.

I also think Wheaton will be a 2nd rounder, and would consiter him a great pick with our 2nd rounder. He is everything you want in a slot receiver. He can be mentored behind Brandon Soakley for a year while primarily being our #4 WR deep theat specialist. He beat De'Anthony Thomas in the 100M last summer, thats how fast he is. More importantly than his 40 time, which will be in the low 4.4 range, he has functional short area speed and a toughness you dont generally see from 182lb receiers.

I like it but there's no way Floyd will last that long.

For Wheaton, I was going based upon cbssports rankings.
I was debating Sharrif vs Sylvester Williams. I saw the bigger body going in the first. Appreciate feedback

I cannot comment on the prospects as, aside from a handful, there are not many whom I have researched enough to make an informed judgement.

However, I will say this much.

If anything this is the year we should trade up and try to land a few low-risk but potential high-impact players. Elway has done an amazing job restocking the depth on this team, we don't need to add a lot more bodies to the roster, we need to add a few big-time players.

So your saying trade 1st and DJ to grab Te'o-type of move?

That probably won't be enough.

We have looked at the trade value chart, concluded that it was not resembling today's draft reality, threw trade scenarios around, debated somewhat heatedly. In the end, a look on the last two to three drafts suggests that in order to get a top 10 pick - who could potentially go the Barron route and get selected even higher, closer to the top 5 - a single 1st plus a player won't be enough.

Multiple picks would have to be traded to get him. And even though I see where AAA is coming from, I don't want us giving away multiple picks for one position when we still need one quality DT and one quality depth/slot wild card, jack-of-all-trades WR. Our DTs are 30 plus and we have a 36 year old slot WR who won't get any younger. We can only get by for so long with these pieces. Granted, Brooking is old as well and DJ is not the most desirable MLB, yet what to do with a Te'o for whom we would have traded up and who would have cost us multiple picks when he does not have the space to roam since our DTs outside of Vickerson cannot keep blockers obtained at the LOS?

I think that would take too much.

My point wasn't to trade into the top 10 for one player, just that this year we shouldn't be trying to trade down for an extra 3rd or 4th or something like that because we're not a team lacking depth and thus adding more depth shouldn't be the goal of the draft.

I agree, depth apart from WR, Tackle is good we need to just grab impact players.

I agree completely. This is the spot we've reached which I tried explaining a few weeks back. We're no longer a "lets get young and turn the roster over" franchise. We're now a "lets get to the Super Bowl and win it" franchise. Teams in this window need high impact players wherever they can get them, however they can get them. Saw this with the Falcons and Julio Jones. I can see Elway and Fox targeting a guy, and moving up. Not saying Te'o, because I think he's played his way too high up, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was the first year in a long time we targeted a guy for instant impact and traded up.

It will be interesting to see how this draft goes considering Denver's depth. It seems they have had a predetermined plan the past 2 drafts about targeting certain positions or skill sets. I don't think that has ever meant they aren't willing to trade up or back to accomplish what they want.

Maybe Denver will draft more toward BPA even if they have reasonable youth and talent. For examples sake, taking a CB even though Bailey, Harris, and Carter have played great football this season and Omar Boldin is behind them. However, I still think Denver will use the draft as they have the past 2 seasons and go in saying these are the 4 or 5 positions/skill sets that are needed and help complete this team.

I can definatley see them targeting a CB. I hope we dont ever move Champ to Safety, but regardless I can see us targeting a heir to Champ sooner than later. We need to keep Harris in the slot, where he is eite. I think Bolden should be an afterthought when deciding if we draft a CB, as he has shown zero so far.

I will be very suprised if we dont draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round. We have zero depth, its a very deep WR class and I believe that we are determined to surround Peyton wit playmakers.

I don't see Le'Veon Bell falling farther than third round.

But i'd love to get him in the fourth....

Le'Veon Bell is my Boy! I am a huge Mich St fan. He is super quick for his big build. We rode this guy all year and he took a lot of wear I just don't know if id want him lol. Id love to get him just iffy. Mean I know just saying. And Gholston has a lot of issues Broncos won't get him just because of his baggage.
