I think he got his wish
On the official 49er forum, people are saying Dilfer was just on ESPN. Apparently he said Kaep will get all 1st team reps and will start against New Orleans.
Now, whether this is health related (ie temporary) or performance related (ie permanent) i don't know. Harbaugh did say Alex was expected to be cleared by the end of the week so Alex will probably be healthy on Sunday. |

Alex Smith has no shot of starting regardless of how he does in practice . This was a simple you're not out of it, when you reality he is out of it. _________________

Interesting. This is more in line with a traditional QB competition.
Who is tunaweasel? |
I thought of Will Ferrell and his line from "The Other Guys"
I know his name isn't tunalion, but I saw the two animals and it reminded me of it.
Quote: | Ok, first off, a lion…swimming in the ocean?
Lions don’t even like water.
If you placed it near a river, or some sort of fresh water source, that’d make sense.
But you find yourself in the ocean, a 20 ft wave, I’m assuming its off the coast of South Africa, coming up against a full, grown, 800 lb tuna with his 20 or 30 friends.
You lose that battle. you lose that battle nine times out of ten. |
| now the tuna like the taste of lion. God I love that movie. _________________

Matt Maiocco on 95.7 the game: I have total confidence in Jim Trotter's story. |

Let him take his lumps now. Realistically, we have enough players on this team who are young enough to be around for at least another few years and hopefully we manage to re-sign enough of them. Kaep has had more than a year in the system and if Harbaugh can re-build Alex in such a short time span I believe he can make Kaep a QB capable of leading this team in the same span of time too.
This team just got that more dangerous to the rest of the league. |

I hope he does well! Beat the Saints, I'm begging you guys! If he plays the way he did against the Bears, you guys should blow them out. We were able to run the ball against them and our running game, mainly Turner, is absolutely horrible. _________________ Adopt a Falcon: Julio Quintorris Lopez Jones

Yep, he's had his best season to date and was actually on a great run before the concussion. If he doesn't leave the game, we probably beat the Rams. _________________

Ok...I'll be the first to say it. I'm not too big on making the franchise changing move now.
I really loved what I saw from Kaep and I think he should of started the second game to get a bigger sample size as to what he is capable of. I would NOT OF opened this up to the Media the way Harbaugh has now(if it's true that he is leaving it open to "practice"). I would of played the medical card again to give the team time to evaluate Kapper and Smith.
Alex has had a good year. I think his numbers don't tell the whole story, but he's done a solid job. I think most of us if not all of us are in agreement with that? It's just shocking to see us making the move right now..
If this is the end of the Smith era...what a hell of way for him to lose his job.
However, I made a post months ago about the true nature of Harbaugh offense and what he wants. The whole "Game Manager" thing has NEVER been his type of QB. So this isn't suprising he's jumping at the oppurtunity to play a much more dynamic QB. _________________

Oh please no QB maybe in history got as many chances as Alex Smith. The guy from 2005 to 2010 got chance after chance.
If there is a guy to feel sorry for it's a Tim Tebow who got kicked to the curb in his FIRST season as a starter after leading a team to a playoff win.
Bottomline is that 2011 was a career year for Alex Smith with a whopping 19 total TDs in 16 games
Harbaugh knows that with that type of game manager, that his chances of winning a Super Bowl are much greater with a guy who has more potential than that
That's why he's rolling with Kaepernick
He may not be the next Steve Young, but you know for sure that Alex Smith isn't one |
